Yash’s film ‘Toxic’ has a complete overdose of style, stardom and action, but the story is so complicated that it gives a headache after three hours. Duration: 3 hours 14 minutes 12 seconds Dainik Bhaskar Rating: 1.5/5 Yash’s ‘Toxic’ is a big scale gangster film with drugs, family, revenge, betrayal and a lot of action. The look of the film is fantastic, Yash’s charisma remains intact, but in terms of story, the film confuses you again and again instead of holding you. The story of the film is set in 1940s Goa, where gangs have taken over the drug trade. Raya Bane Yash is a big name of this world. After betrayals in the family and old scores, the story reaches his son Ticket, where a game of revenge and gang war begins. The idea sounds powerful, but the film moves it forward with so many characters and so fast that after a while it becomes more difficult to remember who is whose man than to understand the story. Yash’s acting in the film is the biggest strength of this film. Her swag, look, body language and screen presence in the character of Raya is fantastic. Even in the role of Ticket, he has tried to change his style and his performance in some scenes really leaves an impact. The film has a big female star cast like Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth, but unfortunately their characters were not written that strongly. Despite being such a big name, most of the characters revolve around Yash. Direction and screenplay in the film, Geetu Mohandas did not make the film thinking small. The sets are big, the visuals are rich and an attempt has been made to give a different style to the entire world, but the problem is that the director trusted style more than the story. The screenplay constantly moves from one place to another. Characters come, shots are fired, someone dies and the story moves on. But only one question keeps revolving in the mind of the viewer, why is this happening? The editing of the film is also very fast. There are so many cuts in the action that instead of thrill, it becomes confusing at many places. The film certainly looks beautiful, but there is a difference between beautiful scenes and a good story. Cinematography in the film: Here the film gets full marks. The old Goa, magnificent sets, clothes, lighting and action scenes together make the film grand. There are many scenes which will make you feel that a lot of money has been spent on the film. But the problem is that the eyes like the film a lot, the brain likes it less. Music in the film Music is another weak link of the film. Ravi Basrur’s background score creates noise at many places instead of creating atmosphere. In an attempt to make every big scene heavy, the music becomes so dominant that sometimes the impact of the scene gets suppressed. Expectations were high from names like Vishal Mishra, Ravi Basrur and Tanishk Bagchi. The songs aren’t bad, but they also feel constantly noisy. After listening for some time, even the ears start asking for rest. Final Verdict on the film: Everything is big in ‘Toxic’ – Yash’s stardom, budget, sets, action and scenes. Just the story is not of that level. The film tries to impress you again and again, but fails to entertain. Yash has many great moments, but stardom alone cannot pull a 3 hour 14 minute film. Overall, the biggest problem of ‘Toxic’ is that the film shows a lot, but makes it feel very little.
