Police had received a complaint that contestants were being made to record a promotional video of an online betting app in the hotel. Whereas betting is illegal in Thailand. After receiving the complaint, promotional posters of the betting app were found in the police investigation.

In this case, Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil and Miss Universe Organization co-founder Raul Rocha were called for questioning.

Nawat clarified that his team has nothing to do with this activity. The app is one of the sponsors of the Miss Universe Organization. At present the matter is under investigation.

French-Lebanese pianist and composer Omar Harfoush was part of the 8-member judging panel. He resigned from the judging panel just three days before the finale. He claimed that a “secret committee” selected the top 30 finalists in its own way in place of the official judges. He said that some people in this committee had personal relations with those contestants and the real judges were not present in that meeting.

On this, Miss Universe Organization denied Harfoosh’s allegations and said that there was no such committee, all the selections were done as per their set rules.
