Many Indian citizens are still stranded amid the increasing tension in the Middle East. Special efforts are being made to return them to India quickly and safely. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the leaders of eight countries of Gulf and West Asia in the last 48 hours. He condemned the recent violence, called for peace and stability in the region and thanked India for ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet has planned to operate 8 special flights from UAE on March 4. All these flights will fly from Fujairah Airport. This includes 4 flights to Delhi, 3 flights to Mumbai and 1 flight to Kochi. On March 3 also, SpiceJet had run four special flights, so that the stranded people could reach Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi.
Also, Saudi Airlines’ Jeddah flight SV756 landed at Delhi’s IGI Airport. Jeddah is considered the main gateway to Mecca, so many Indian Muslim pilgrims return to India via this route. Similarly, four special flights of Indigo also took off from Jeddah and landed in three cities – Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi.
The government said that a total of 58 flights of Indian airlines are planned to operate on March 4. In this, 30 flights will run through IndiGo, 23 flights through Air India and Air India Express. Foreign airlines have also operated some limited flights.
Let us tell you that due to the Middle East crisis, so far 1,221 flights have been canceled by Indian airlines and 388 flights have been canceled by foreign airlines. A total of 1,117 international flights have been canceled in the last three days.
The ministry has said that the safety of passengers is of utmost importance. All airlines have been instructed to provide timely information to passengers and assist in ticket refunds and changes. Passengers have been appealed to check the flight status from their airline’s website or official source only.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Indian Mission are in constant touch with the airlines and foreign air authorities to ensure safe and orderly return of the stranded citizens to India.
