The tourism industry is suffering huge losses due to Israel and America’s attacks on Iran and Iran’s attacks in the Middle East. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) estimates that the tour and travel sector around the world is incurring a daily loss of around Rs 5,500 crore due to the Iran conflict.

About half of the travelers going out of India go to countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman. Of these also about 40 percent go for travelling. Now Indian tourists are inquiring for countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Japan.

Even after increasing the fares of airlines, many tourists are giving preference to domestic places like Kochi, Puri, Andaman. Inquiries for home spaces have seen an increase of nearly 200% in the last few days.

2026 may prove good for domestic tourism

According to Anisha Sharma, spokesperson of Delhi-based travel company TeamOne Holidays, ‘At present, almost 100% cancellations are being seen for travel to Gulf countries. If this trend continues, 2026 could prove to be a very strong year for India’s domestic tourism. Travelers are searching for nearby and diverse tourist destinations in the country.

According to Hari Ganapathy, CEO of international travel platform PickYourTravel, bookings for the Middle-East region have declined by up to 60%.

Rajesh Mago, co-founder of MakeMyTrip, says – If the conflict continues for a long time, people may turn to domestic destinations or unaffected international destinations.

Nishant Pitti, founder of EaseMyTrip, says, ‘Good growth is being seen in bookings for countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives and Japan. Domestic tourism continues to be strong.
