Today is the 15th day of the monsoon session of Parliament. The opposition continues to protest against the demand for discussion on Bihar SIR. Due to this, the entire day’s proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are not being taken.
On Thursday too, the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025 was passed from the Rajya Sabha amidst the uproar by the opposition. Its purpose is to facilitate freight on the Indian coastline. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 3 April.
At the same time, the decision could not be made to send the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and National Anti -Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the Lok Sabha. The opposition has demanded to send both the bills to JPC.
In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh demanding a discussion on Bihar SIR. However, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Lok Sabha rule is that the cases pending in the court cannot be discussed in the House.
Other opposition MPs, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, demonstrated in the Parliament complex on Tuesday about the Bihar SIR.
There have been 2 days discussion so far in 14 days Parliamentary proceedings have been near by the monsoon session which started on 21 July. Opposition parties protested every day on the verification case of voters in Bihar. During 14 days, on 28 and 29 July, the entire day’s proceedings took place in the House. Both days, Pahalgam terror attacks and Operation Sindoor were discussed in both houses.

The monsoon session will run 32 days, there will be 18 meetings
The monsoon session of Parliament will run from 21 July to 21 August i.e. 32 days. During this time there will be 18 meetings, more than 15 bills will be introduced. Parliament will not be proceeded with the Independence Day celebrations on 13-14 August.
The central government will introduce 8 new bills in the monsoon session, while 7 pending bills will be discussed. These include bills like Manipur GST Amendment Bill 2025, Income Tax Bill, National Sports Governance Bill.
On the first day, the report of the Parliamentary Committee on the new income tax bill will be presented in the Lok Sabha. The committee has given 285 suggestions. The 622 -page bill will replace the 6 decade -old Income Tax Act 1961.
