Mehbooba said the Congress party is in the pocket of the National Conference.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the next government in Jammu and Kashmir will be secular. No government will be formed here without the support of our party. PDP has emerged as the number one party in the first phase of elections.

Mehbooba on Tuesday sought votes for party candidate Varinder Singh from Jammu’s Bahu assembly seat. She said that when the National Conference talked of joining Pakistan, it was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who had raised the Indian flag high in Kashmir.

Mehbooba said- Has BJP forgotten that Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months, asked to form government with us and said that we can put any condition. We formed the government on those conditions.

Mehbooba said the elections are important for the future of Jammu and Kashmir and asked people to vote carefully.

Big BJP leaders come here. The Prime Minister comes, the Home Minister comes, but they only oppose us. They have nothing to offer to the people. Who are they opposing? Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s party has raised the flag of India in Kashmir since the 1960s.

Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months Mehbooba said- When the National Conference campaigned for independence and talked about going to Pakistan, it was Mufti Sahab who held and hoisted the Indian flag in Kashmir. And now they (BJP leaders) call his party anti-national.

Have they forgotten that Ram Madhav knocked on our doors for two months, asking to form government with us and said we can put any conditions. We formed the government on those conditions.

7 things from Mehbooba’s speech…

  • Mufti Sahab ran the government in Jammu and Kashmir for more than three years. That period is called the golden period. We gave one MP to Jammu, we gave one MLC to Jammu, we gave one MLA to Jammu. Which party has done this?
  • BJP is asking for votes from people by promising to give a Chief Minister from Jammu region. These are empty promises. Do not fall for them. Tell me, they had the post of Governor, why did they not appoint a Governor from Jammu?
  • Why did BJP bring a Governor from outside? BJP is trying to mislead you (the public). If the Governor was from Jammu, Kashmiris would have respected him as he is from this region and there would have been no protest.
  • Why is there not a single advisor from Jammu? In our time, the DGP was from Jammu, the Chief Secretary was from Jammu. Apart from these, many other officers were also from Jammu.
  • Today BJP says vote for us and we will give you a Hindu Chief Minister. Is the Prime Minister of India a Muslim? Is the Governor here not a Hindu? You have a Prime Minister there and a Governor here. So what have you achieved in all these years.
  • What has the BJP government done in the last 6 years? Jammu and Kashmir is number one in terms of unemployment. It is also number one in drug abuse. Our electricity is being given to others.
  • Smart meters have been installed here. They take money from us and give electricity to someone else. Contracts for sand and gravel are given to outsiders. Liquor contracts are also given to outsiders.

The option was over in Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba said on the Congress-NC alliance- When Congress had made an agreement in 1987, Dr. Farooq Abdullah had put Rajiv Gandhi’s party in his pocket. Even today this party is in the pocket of National Conference and has not come out of it.

NC is responsible for the rise of terrorism. When NC and Congress came together, the option in Jammu and Kashmir ended. In 1987, the people of Kashmir said that they would find a new option. When elections were held, the National Conference cheated so much that they did not allow an option to emerge. You all saw its result.

Mufti said that when Kashmiri youth saw that their votes were being stolen, they took up guns. This had its consequences. Chhatti Singhpura happened, Kotdara happened and after that many more happened. Even now graveyards are being built in Jammu and Kashmir.

What was the need for Mufti sahab to contest elections from Jammu. Because the National Conference had created an atmosphere against him in Kashmir. He contested elections from Jammu and all of you respected him, made him win from here. When Omar Abdullah became an MP, where was the BJP? The BJP kept him as a minister for five years.
