Social media platform X has shut down its operations in Brazil. The company’s CEO Elon Musk gave this information on Saturday (August 17). He blamed the Supreme Court’s censorship order behind the decision. However, X’s services will continue for the people of Brazil.

Musk wrote on X – Due to (illegal) secret censorship and demands to hand over private information by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, we have decided to close the X office in Brazil. This decision was difficult, but we had no way to explain our actions without embarrassment.

X claims that Alexandre Moraes threatened one of its legal representatives in Brazil with arrest if he did not comply with orders to remove certain content from X.

Musk announced the closure of X’s operations in Brazil at 10:34 pm on Saturday (August 17).
