Khandwa SP Manoj Rai said – When the torch march was ending at the clock tower of the city, while placing the torch, some of the torches turned upside down, due to which the sawdust and oil in it ignited the torches nearby. Due to this, the people standing there in a circle got burnt. Women and children are also included in this. People’s faces and hands are burnt. 30 people were brought to the district hospital. Of these, 12 people have been admitted. The rest were sent home after first aid.

Torch march was organized against terrorism In Khandwa, Rashtra Bhakta Veer Yuva Manch had organized a torch march for youth referendum against terrorism under the leadership of Hindutva leader Ashok Paliwal. This program took place at Barabam Chowk on Thursday evening. This 5-hour long program was addressed by BJP MLA T Raja from Hyderabad and West Bengal BJP spokesperson and Supreme Court advocate Nazia Khan. In this program, tribute was also paid to the soldiers martyred in the 26/11 terrorist attack.
The torch procession started late at 11 pm. After half an hour, the procession was concluding at Ghantaghar Chowk, during which some torches turned upside down while placing them. Due to which the fire broke out. There were flammable materials in the torch. It is being told that there were wood sawdust and camphor powder in the torch, due to which the fire flared up further. More than 50 people got affected by it. There were one thousand torches in the procession. About 200 torches were lit.

An injured woman admitted in the hospital said-
When the children were adamant, they were taken along to join the torch procession. While we were standing, a torch fell from someone’s hand and the fire broke out. People started running, there were children with us so we fell down. People started falling running over us.
