Amid the ongoing rebellion in Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee said that the party’s election symbol will not go anywhere. If I want to stop you, you will have to kill me.
Mamta challenged the rebel leaders and said, if you have courage then join BJP openly. Do you think I’m finished? I will go among the public with the party’s election symbol, no one can suppress my voice.”
He alleged that rebel leaders are now openly working for BJP. Mamta said, even betrayal has a limit. This statement of Mamta has come at a time when 20 MPs and 58 MLAs of the party have formed separate factions.
On Saturday, TMC West Bengal President Chandrima Bhattacharya also resigned from her post. Later she was seen with rebel group leader and leader of opposition in the assembly Ritabrata Banerjee.
Why did Mamta challenge? Separate group of MLAs, merger of MPs with NCPI
The rebel MLAs and MPs who left Mamta and separated have not joined BJP at present.
- On June 3, 58 out of 80 TMC MLAs had separated from the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. They formed a separate faction, laying claim to the party symbol and name.
- Apart from this, on June 15, 20 TMC MPs also left the party and merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of Tripura (NCPI).
Mamta said – won the elections on the strength of the party, now they are betraying it
- The same leaders who won the elections on their party symbol are now saying that the party will no longer exist after 2023. The party itself gave him political identity, but now he is betraying the same party and openly working for the BJP. If you have courage then join BJP openly.
- Some people captured the Trinamool building with the help of central forces. The rent of the building is deposited till October 2027 and the party pays a rent of Rs 1 lakh every month. It is not the property of any person, but the property of ‘Maa, Mati, Manush’. The building may be captured, but not the hearts of the people.
- BJP has gained power by influencing the votes, voter list and counting process. With the help of central forces, the counting centers were captured and the entire process was hijacked. Despite this we have accepted the new government.
After defeat in Bengal elections, rebel group elected Ritabrata as leader
On June 3, the news of rebellion in TMC came to light for the first time. 58 out of 80 rebel MLAs of TMC had chosen MLA Ritabrata Banerjee, who was expelled from the party, as their leader. Gave a letter of support to Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose.
It was demanded that Ritabrata should be declared the leader of opposition. The speaker had approved. In the representative meeting held on June 22, a new President, Vice President and 30-member National Executive were formed.
On June 3, rebel TMC MLAs had given a letter of support to the Assembly Speaker to make Ritabrata Banerjee the Leader of Opposition.
Mamta now has 22 MLAs and 17 MPs left.
TMC had a total of 28 Lok Sabha MPs, out of which 20 have defected. Now Mamata has only 8 MPs left in the Lok Sabha. Talking about Rajya Sabha, 4 out of 13 MPs have resigned i.e. only 9 Rajya Sabha MPs are left.
Talking about the Assembly, TMC had won 80 seats in this election. Out of these, 58 MLAs have formed separate groups. Mamta has only 22 MLAs left.
A separate party gets recognition when it has two-thirds members.
A 10-member delegation of the rebel group had met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on July 2 and demanded recognition of itself as the real TMC. He had informed the Election Commission about the organizational changes in the party and the new National Executive (NWC).
