CM Mamata Banerjee has shared the second letter written to PM Modi on X.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written another letter to PM Modi on the floods in West Bengal. In the second letter written within 2 days, Mamata has alleged that Damodar Valley Corporation released water without consulting her, due to which the districts of Bengal got submerged.
Earlier, on September 20, Mamata had also written a letter to PM Narendra Modi. In which she had alleged that Bengal was flooded due to the release of 5 lakh cusecs of water from the dams under Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).
Meanwhile, amid the ongoing war of words between the Bengal government and the Centre, the state’s electricity secretary Shantanu Basu has resigned from the DVC board. Apart from Basu, the chief engineer of Bengal’s irrigation department has also resigned from the regulation committee.
The Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee (DVRRC) consists of representatives from the Central Water Commission, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Damodar Valley Corporation.
On September 19, Mamata Banerjee reached among the flood affected people in Panskura area of Bengal.
Important points of Mamta’s second letter to PM…
- I disagree with the Union Jal Shakti Minister’s claim that the release of water from DVC dams was done in consultation with representatives of the West Bengal government and with the consent and cooperation of the Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulation Committee.
- All important decisions are taken unilaterally by the Central Water Commission, Jal Shakti Ministry, Government of India without consensus. Sometimes water is released without informing the state government. Our views are not respected.
- Water was released from the dams for about 9 hours. We got only 3.5 hours to manage the flood, which was not enough for effective disaster management.
In the letter written on September 20, he had asked for financial help Mamata has made this claim in her letter to PM Modi on September 20. Mamata said, ‘More than 50 lakh people of the state have been badly affected by the man-made flood. If the negligence continues, the state will break all ties with the corporation. This is a man-made flood, which is the worst flood in the Damodar river since 2009. The central government should provide financial assistance to deal with the devastation caused by the flood.’
Centre’s reply- Bengal government was informed at every stage After Mamata’s allegations, Union Water Power Minister CR Patil wrote a letter to Chief Minister Mamata on 20 September itself. In which it was said that the officials were informed at every level about the release of water from the dams of Damodar Valley Corporation. This was necessary to prevent any major disaster. The proposal for funds for flood management has also been forwarded.
