The situation in Manipur worsened again after the encounter between security forces and Kuki militants on November 11.

The postmortem report (PM report) of 10 Kuki militants killed in the November 11 encounter between Kuki militants and security forces has come out. Reports suggest that most were shot from behind. Everyone had bullet wounds all over their body from head to toe. Some were hit by more than a dozen bullets.

Apart from this, there are no other wounds or marks of torture on his body. However, one eye each of the four bodies is missing. The report mentions that when the bodies were brought to Assam’s Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem, most of them were in uniform and khaki attire.

Manipur Police had said that on November 11, some uniformed men armed with hi-tech weapons had opened indiscriminate fire at the Borobekra police station and the adjacent CRPF camp in Jiribam. 10 terrorists were killed in the encounter that followed. One of them was a minor.

Some died within 24 hours and some died 96 hours before. An important thing has also come to light in the report that the estimated time of death of the six bodies brought to SMCH on November 12, the next day of the encounter, was 24 to 36 hours earlier. After this, the four dead bodies brought on 14th November had started decomposing. The estimated time of his death was 72 to 96 hours ago. While the estimated time of death of one was 48 to 72 hours ago.

The funeral will take place on December 5, about a month after the death. The head of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum, the main organization of the Kuki community, said that the last rites of these 10 youth along with two other Kuki men will be held in Churachandpur on December 5 (about 24 days after the death).

Earlier the forum had said that the last rites would not take place until their post-mortem reports were handed over to the families. The forum had also claimed that the deceased were volunteers of the village. The bodies were airlifted from Silchar to Churachandpur on November 16 and since then, i.e., have been kept in the mortuary of the local hospital for about 15 days.

Of the six people who were kidnapped and killed from Jiribam, the postmortem report of the remaining three came on November 27. There was a woman and two children in it. Bullet marks as well as serious injuries were found on all three bodies.

Apart from this, the postmortem report of two elderly people who were killed in the attack by Kuki terrorists on November 11 was also received. Their bodies were found in burnt condition on 12 November. Some body parts of one of these bodies were missing.

Earlier on November 24, postmortem reports of 3 Meitei people (two women and a child) were revealed. Apart from those 2 elders, all the 6 Meiteis belonged to the same family. Why did the situation worsen again in Manipur…

  • 11 November: Security forces had killed 10 Kuki militants in Jiribam. During the encounter, Kuki militants had kidnapped 6 Meiteis (3 women, 3 children).

The goods kept for the displaced people were also destroyed. Relief camp volunteer Sanayai had claimed that lockers, electronics items and furniture were broken during the violence.
