The second season of Prime Video’s web series ‘Duphaiya’ has been released today. After entertaining the audience with village simplicity and interesting characters in the first season, the series is returning with new twists and revelations. This season will see issues like crime, love, jugaad, superstition and paper leaks. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, actor Bhuvan Arora, actress Shivani Raghuvanshi and director Sonam Nair talked about the characters of the series, their nuances, shooting experiences and real-life similarities. He also shared many interesting stories related to the series. Question: In the first season, Dhadakpur looked quite simple. Why does it seem to be becoming like ‘Mirzapur’ this time? Answer/Sonam Nair: In the last season we had shown that there is no crime at all in Dhadakpur. The people there are very innocent and simple. But by the end of the story it is revealed that the people who were showing themselves to be as straight as they are, are actually not as straight. Now everyone has been exposed and their reality has come to light. The real form of these characters will be seen in this season. Question: What was your impression in your first meeting with Bhuvan and Shivani? Answer/Sonam Nair: When I met Bhuvan for the role of Amavasya, initially we did not even talk about the role. We just kept laughing for about half an hour. Bhuvan was telling me stories about Bihar and his in-laws’ house. I thought it would be a lot of fun with them on the set. He is a good actor, he will definitely do the role, but there should be fun on the set too. My first impression was that if Bhuvan is there then I will enjoy. I saw Shivani for the first time in a party. Everyone was meeting there happily, but Shivani was standing silently in a corner. She was not talking much to anyone and had Diet Coke in her hand. I felt that despite living in the glamor world, she had a different kind of innocence. She is the kind of girl we want. Question: Bhuvan, how were you in terms of studies? Those who prepare two months in advance or study the night before the exam? Answer/Bhuvan Arora: I used to pass by rote learning. Even today, this habit helps me a lot in memorizing long dialogues. People often ask how you remember dialogues so quickly. I say that I passed school by rote learning. Leave aside the last minute, I used to keep reading till the last second. You will often see that while memorizing dialogues, my eyes remain upward, as if some soul has come inside me and I am memorizing something. I passed this way. Question: Sonam, who is the one-take artist and who is the perfectionist? Answer/Sonam Nair: Both perform well in one-take. Their performance is good right from the beginning. If any small change needs to be made, I get it done. Shivani might sometimes say let’s do one more take, but I always don’t do it. Question: If an artiste, even after doing so well, says that something is missing and wants to give one more take, then what do you do? Answer/Sonam Nair: I tell her that you have done so well, I am very happy. Have confidence in yourself and move forward. Yes, if there is a very important scene and he really feels that another take is necessary, then I let him do it. Many times there is insecurity among artists that we can do better. But if I think the take is good enough, I lovingly say no, it’s great, let’s move on. Question: There is a dialogue in the trailer about Saturday. Has any trick ever happened to you in real life? Answer/Bhuvan Arora: A similar incident happened with me on Saturday, but it was not a two-wheeler but a washing machine. We had bought a washing machine in Delhi and had clearly said that iron items are not allowed in our house on Saturdays. But his delivery arrived around 8-8:30 pm on Saturday night. The delivery person told my mother, Madam, now where will we take it back and will we bring it again, you keep it. Mom felt that the children would be in trouble again, so she kept them. That washing machine troubled us a lot. Sometimes rats would cut its wires, and sometimes some other problem would occur. We continued to struggle with that problem for about three and a half months. Eventually the company replaced the machine. That’s why there is a rule in our house even today that iron things are not allowed on Saturdays. Question: Shivani, do you also believe in these superstitions? Answer/Shivani Raghuvanshi: I do not believe in all these things. But such things keep happening in our house. Some say this should not be done on Tuesday, some say this should not be done on Thursday. While I was booking flights, I was told at home not to go in a particular direction on Friday. This is called direction colic. I don’t believe in these things. I say that I will go and see today itself, we will see if anything happens. Till date nothing wrong has happened to me. I believe whatever will happen, will be seen. Same is the case with the nature of light also. She challenges the superstition and says try it, what will happen to me. Question: What is the similarity between Bhuvan, Amavas and your personality? Bhuvan Arora: Amavasya and I have one thing in common. If I love someone I can go to any extent for him. Yes, one thing is not common at all. I am not a kleptomaniac and do not steal anyone’s stuff. Shivani Raghuvanshi: Roshni and I have nothing in common and I don’t even want that. Question: What have you done in real life for love, which you consider a big effort? Answer/Bhuvan Arora: I remember, my wife liked a piece of jewelery and she was in Pune. I specially went to Pune to give her that jewelery on our anniversary. Gave the order to the jeweler and then came back with the jewellery. I believe that we can do small things for our partners. There was no such situation that it could be life threatening. Touchwood, such a situation did not arise. Question: In the series, Amavas arranges cheating for his friend. Have you ever had to copy in real life? Shivani Raghuvanshi: No, not very much. Although I used to cheat very badly in school. I used to imitate by taking full turns. My friends used to say that you stay ahead, we will follow you. Question: The issue of paper leak has also been raised in the series. If Amavasya had to solve this problem with his own tricks, what would he do? Answer/Bhuvan Arora: First of all, I will explain to Roshni not to get into the trap of these useless challenges. Just because it has been said, it is not necessary that it has to be demonstrated. I was just happy that if she passed, she would go to the city and stay away from me. I would never want him to go away from me. But I am struck by love, what should I do? Whatever she says has to be done for her beloved. So I will try to help as long as I can. Whether he is far or near. Question: Sonam, would you like to give any solution on this issue? Sonam Nair: Who am I to tell you the solution? There are many people heading our system who are more educated and responsible than me. From our end, we can only tell people’s stories. At that level, I can say something about what changes we can bring about at our level in the problems people face. But when we all together are not able to solve such a big problem, then I cannot tell its solution. This is also a matter of coincidence. When we made this show, the issue of paper leak was not so prominent or relevant. I think at the time when this issue is being discussed, our show is also coming at the same time. We shot it a long time ago. So this is a complete coincidence. Question: Bhuvan, the artists associated with two of your films were honored at the recently held National Awards. How do you see it? Bhuvan Arora: I consider myself very fortunate to have got the opportunity to be a part of both those great films. If I have contributed even a little in telling her story, due to which she reached this stage and won the National Award, then I am very happy and grateful. Both films are very special for me. Both are stories based on real life. I think we should make more such films. Question: In ‘Two Wheeler’ an emotional attachment has been shown with the first vehicle. What are your memories of your first bike or car? Bhuvan Arora: When I was studying in college, I bought my first bike, which was in my name. Before that, the bike that the family had bought and given was in his name. But I bought my bullet myself. I still have that bullet. It’s been a long time, I haven’t been able to run it and don’t get time, but I have kept it safe. That was my first car which was in my name. That’s why he is very special to me. I don’t think I’ll ever sell it. Shivani Raghuvanshi: The car on which I learned driving was a white Fiat 118. That was our family car and I learned to drive on it. I remember, one day I took my family for a drive. They were feeling very happy and proud that their daughter was driving the car. That’s why I have a special connection with that car.
