CBI has arrested an army colonel in a bribery case of Rs 50 lakh. The officer was posted with the Army Ordnance Corps under the Eastern Command in Kolkata. According to CBI, the Colonel is accused of rigging the tender process to benefit a Kanpur company. The agency claims that the officer helped in getting the tender, approving substandard samples and getting the pending and increased bills passed. According to the investigating agency’s FIR, the Colonel had asked for the pending bribe amount from the businessman. The businessman talked about shortage of cash. After this the officer called the businessman’s driver and asked him to deliver the money to one of his acquaintances. The bribe of Rs 50 lakh was to be delivered through Hawala.
