The CBI has lodged two separate FIRs against seven officers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for alleged theft and fraud in government goods and corruption of Rs 1.8 crore. The case was lodged by ITBP.
In the first FIR, the CBI has alleged that the then commandant Anuprit Borkar, Deputy Commandant Deepak Gogoi, Puran Ram, Mukesh Chand Meena, Inspector Anil Kumar Pandey and contractor Madan Singh Rana were involved in several illegal works in Pithoragarh.
These people had the responsibility of delivering government goods and materials on border posts (BOP) in 2019-21. The accused rigged the terms of the tender and were involved in illegal activities, causing a loss of about Rs 1.54 crore to the government.
The second case is related to theft in government stores during 2017-18 and 2018-19. The CBI has registered a case against the then Commandant Mahendra Pratap, Gogoi, Meena and contractor Madan Singh Rana, Kundan Singh Bhandari and Puran Singh Bisht.

Manoj Jarange’s fast will end today, said- now we will adopt a separate strategy
Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange will end his hunger strike on Thursday. He has decided to adopt a separate strategy to carry forward the demand for reservation. 104 activists, including Jarange and women, started a hunger strike on 25 January demanding reservation for Marathas under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
Apart from reservation demand, Jarang has demanded death penalty for those involved in the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Masjog village in Beed district. Santosh was abducted and killed on 9 December 2024.
