The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, on Tuesday approved ‘RELOS’, a military agreement between India and Russia. Under this, the armies of both the countries will be able to use and exchange each other’s military bases, facilities and resources.
Their aircraft, warships will be able to refuel, camp at military bases or use other logistics facilities. The expenditure on this will be borne equally.
This agreement was signed between India and Russia on 18 February this year. Last week, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin sent it to Parliament for approval. After getting the approval, it is being considered a big step in the military cooperation between the two countries.
Russia and India will be able to help each other easily
The Speaker of the Russian Parliament said that relations between India and Russia are very strong and this agreement will further improve those relations. The Russian government also said that this agreement will further strengthen the military partnership between the two countries and it will become easier to help each other in times of need.
After this agreement, India will become the first country to have an agreement to share military infrastructure with America and Russia. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi confirmed this on Bhaskar’s question on Tuesday.
He told that this agreement with Russia is in the final stages. This will not lead to any military conflict between America and Russia.
Why is the RELOS agreement special?
Reciprocal Exchange of Logistic Support (RELOS) is considered to be one of the most important defense agreements ever in the strategic partnership of the two countries. This is a defense logistics exchange agreement.
Under this, the armies of India and Russia will be able to use each other’s military bases, ports, airfields and supply points.
This use will be only for purposes like refueling, repair, stock refill, medical support, transit and movement.
India has signed similar agreements with America (LEMOA), France, Australia, Singapore, South Korea and many other countries. Now Russia is also joining it.
Putin will stay at a secret place, he will have multi-layer security in Delhi
Russian President Vladimir Putin is coming to India on 4 December. He will participate in the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi. Putin will stay at a secret place in Delhi. Its details have not been made public. Delhi will be under multi-layer security on 4-5 December.
Swat team, anti terror squad and quick action teams will be deployed in most areas of the capital. More than 50 members of Russia’s advanced security and protocol team have reached Delhi.
Most focus will be on defense agreement
In this visit of Putin, the biggest focus will be on defense agreement. Russia has already said that it is ready to provide its SU-57 stealth fighter jet to India.
This is Russia’s most advanced fighter aircraft. India is already exploring new options to strengthen its Air Force fleet.
Apart from this, discussions are expected on future plans like cooperation on S-500, next version of BrahMos missile and jointly building warships for the navies of both the countries.
Expected to buy Russian S-400 missile defense system
According to news agency PTI, India may be in talks to buy some more S-400 missile defense systems from Russia. Because it was very effective during ‘Operation Vermillion’ against Pakistan.
A deal for five such systems had already been made, out of which India has received 3. Delivery of the fourth squadron is on hold due to the Russia–Ukraine war.
S-400 Triumph is Russia’s advanced missile system, which was launched in 2007. This system can destroy fighter jets, ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and even stealth aircraft.
It acts like a strong shield to protect against various threats in the air. It is counted among the most modern air defense systems of the world.
