Israel has decided to resettle the remaining 5800 Jews of the Bnai Menashe community living in the north-eastern states of India. They will be taken to Israel in the next 5 years.

According to the Jewish Agency for Israel, the government approved this plan on Sunday. Under this, the entire community will be settled in Israel by 2030.

Of these, 1200 people have already been approved for settlement in 2026. These are people whose close relatives have already settled in Israel.

In 2005, Israeli religious leader Shlomo Amar recognized this community as people of Israeli origin. Currently about 2500 people of this community are living in Israel.

Currently many youths from this community are serving in combat units in the Israeli Army.

The largest team of Jewish religious leaders will come to India

After the decision of the Israeli government, the largest ever team of Jewish religious leaders (rabbis) will come to India. This will be the first official religious investigation team to visit India in the last ten years. The team will include rabbis (Jewish religious leaders) and experts in religious law (Halakha).

The team will investigate the religious identity of members of the Bnei Menashe community from northeastern India who are to be deported to Israel over the next five years.

Before settling in Israel, people from the Bnei Menashe community must undergo a religious interview, identity verification, and formal religious procedures.

This entire process will be under the supervision of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate, Conversion Authority, Population and Immigration Authority and Jewish Agency.

After the completion of the investigation by the team of rabbis, conversion classes will start for the people. After this their documentation will be done and preparations will be made for flights to Israel.

The Israeli government has also approved a budget of about 90 million shekels (about Rs 240 crore) for all these works.
