DRDO successfully tests Guided Pinaka Rocket System. The Defense Minister gave this information at 7 pm on 14 November.

India has successfully tested the Guided Pinak Weapon System. This test was done by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

This system has been completely made in the country itself. This system can fire 12 rockets in just 44 seconds, i.e. one rocket every 4 seconds. During the trials, its firepower, accuracy and power to attack multiple targets simultaneously were tested.

The Defense Ministry said that this test was conducted at three different places. A total of 24 rockets were fired from two launchers. All these rockets managed to hit their targets successfully.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and Army on this success. He said that with the addition of this new system our army will become stronger.

Guided Pinaka system has been prepared by DRDO scientists. Many companies also contributed in making it, like Munitions India Limited and Tata Advanced Systems. DRDO chief Sameer V. Kamat also expressed his happiness over this success and said that the system is now ready to join the army.

The strength of the indigenous Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System was demonstrated at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in February 2024.

What is Pinak Rocket Launcher System? Pinak Rocket Launcher System is named after ‘Pinak’, the bow of Lord Shiva. It has been developed by DRDO’s Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE).

Its battery consists of six launch vehicles. It has loader systems, radar and network based systems and links with a command post.

Currently there are 2 versions. The first is Mark I, which has a range of 40 kilometers and the second is Mark-II, which has a range of 75 kilometers. There are plans to increase its range to 120-300 kilometers.

The Pinak Rocket Launcher System consists of 12 214 mm rockets. The speed of Pinak rockets makes it most dangerous. Its speed is 5,757.70 kilometers per hour, which means it attacks at a speed of 1.61 kilometers in one second. Its 24 tests were conducted in the year 2023.

Read 4 points about Pinak Rocket Launcher System….

  1. In 1981, the Indian Army needed long-range missiles. In 1986, Rs 26 crore was given to DRDO to make such a missile. In the 1999 war, Pinak was successful in strongly attacking the Pakistan Army.
  2. In 2000, the creation of a separate regiment for Pinak began. On 19 August 2020, the new variant of Pinak was successfully tested in Pokhran.
  3. The American HIMARS missile is one of the many modern weapons that forced the Russian army to retreat in the Ukraine war. But, Himars has been overtaken by India’s Pinak. The operational range of Pinak is 800 km, while that of HIMARS is 450 km.
  4. Similarly, the firing capacity of Pinak is 12 rockets at a time, while the firing capacity of HIMARS is 6 rockets at a time. India’s Pinak is ahead of American Himars in both these matters.
