After the floods in Nepal, the situation there remains very bad. Around 600 people have died, while several thousand people are still missing. Meanwhile, it was being said on social media for several days that Nepal has refused to take help from other countries including India, China. Now the PM of Nepal himself has given clarification on this. Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah has said that the propaganda about Nepal’s rejection of foreign cooperation is misleading.
While writing a status on Facebook on Friday (28 August), he clarified the situation regarding foreign cooperation. He wrote, ‘This propaganda that foreign cooperation has been rejected is misleading. Constant coordination is being done with India, China and international partners regarding the necessary cooperation and material for rescue and relief.
Prime Minister Shah also said that while deploying helicopters in rescue operations, air security, geographical reach and actual need are being kept in mind. He also gave information in 20 points about the major works and progress done on Friday.
Balen Shah 20 key points mentioned by-
1. 15,431 security personnel have been deployed in search and rescue operations. in these Nepal 4,473 police personnel, 6,755 Nepali Army and 4,203 Armed Police Force Nepal personnel are deployed in the affected areas including Rasuwa and Bhotekoshi-Trishuli corridor.
2. So far 4,451 people have been rescued. These include 191 people rescued from the hydroelectric tunnel and 517 people rescued in Friday’s air rescue operation. A total of 16 helicopters of Nepali Army and private sector are continuously operating shuttle flights in areas including Dhunche, Trishuli, Timure and Syafrabensi. So far 99 air flights have taken place.
3. Along with the rescue work, relief material is also being delivered to the affected areas. So far 32 trucks filled with food and non-food items have been sent. Relief material has also been delivered through 6 helicopter flights. Communication equipment has also been sent to the affected areas.
4. The rescue of civilians and employees trapped in the tunnels has been given top priority. Search and rescue is going on in Upper Trishuli Hydroelectric Project, Rasuwagadhi Hydroelectric Power Station and other at-risk tunnels. Necessary special rescue equipment has also been deployed.
5. The search operation has been extended to the lower coastal areas. The search for missing people and dead bodies is underway by deploying additional security personnel in the Trishuli-Narayani river corridor from Rasuwa to Nuwakot, Dhading via Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan and Nawalparasi.
6. Special coordination is being done for search, rescue and identification of foreign nationals. So far 129 foreign tourists/citizens have been rescued and identified. The Ministry of External Affairs has operated an emergency control room to coordinate with embassies and families.
7. The propaganda of rejection of foreign cooperation is misleading. Constant coordination is being done with India, China and international partners regarding necessary cooperation and material for rescue and relief. Air safety, geographical reach and actual need have been kept in mind in the use of helicopters.
8. The threat of re-flooding in Bhotekoshi and low-lying coastal areas is being continuously monitored. In areas with potential risk, advance warning and preparations have been made to take people to safe places. Citizens of risk areas have been appealed to move to safe places. Advance warning has been given through more than 2 lakh SMS alerts.
9. Direct leadership and coordination of relief and rescue operations has been made effective. The Home Minister himself is present in the affected districts and is giving necessary instructions by coordinating with the security bodies, local administration, local bodies and related agencies.
10. The work of restoring road connectivity has been expedited. By starting alternative road routes, operation of small four-wheelers has been started. Kathmandu-Mughlin road has been opened for one-way traffic.
11. Rasuwa has been again connected to the road network. The alternative road to Bogtitar-Kalikasthan-Dhunche via Kathmandu-Tokha-Chhare-Gadkhar Pul-Apre-Narja-Lachyang-Sarmathali-Patikhark has become operational for small four-wheelers. The work of building bypass near the damaged bridges has been started. A formal initiative has been taken to provide 10 48 meter long Bailey bridges from India to restore regular road connectivity.
12. Immediate arrangements for drinking water, fuel and sanitation have been made. 4 water tankers have been installed in Nuwakot. 900 kg bleaching powder has been sent to the affected areas for safe drinking water. There is a stock of 41 thousand liters of diesel and 24 thousand liters of petrol in Bhairavi, Suryamati and Panchkanya oil stores of Nuwakot. 17 thousand liters of jet fuel has been sent to Nuwakot.
13. Detailed assessment of the damage caused in the affected areas has been started. Sectoral groups and 15 technical teams have been deployed to assess the damage to roads, bridges, electricity, drinking water, telecom, hydropower and other structures.
14. Health Emergency Operation Center has been activated to continue health services. 6 hospitals have been kept on standby. Medical teams have been sent from various institutions including Veer Hospital, National Trauma Center and Dhulikhel Hospital. Necessary medicines and health supplies have been sent. Tents and emergency health supplies have been arranged for at least 5,000 people.
15. Progress has been made in restoring communication services. Out of 198 towers/sites affected, 145 have become operational. 82 out of 120 sites of Nepal Telecom and 63 out of 78 sites of Nsel have become operational. Work is underway to restore service at the remaining sites by providing technical and energy resources.
16. The work of restoration of electricity service has been expedited. Electricity supply has been restored in about 90 percent area of Nuwakot. Necessary work is going on to start electricity service in Dhunche.
17. Arrangements for safe accommodation and transportation for at-risk families are being taken forward. Identification of locations for emergency shelter and rehabilitation is underway. To ease access to settlements cut off due to blockage of roads and bridges, work on construction of tuins (rope bridges) has been taken forward at about 10 places in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
18. Economic resources are being mobilized for relief, rescue and rehabilitation. A total of Rs 6 crore 75 lakh has been made available to 15 local bodies affected by flood and disaster for immediate relief and rescue. More than 1.9 billion Nepali rupees have been deposited in the Prime Minister’s Divine Outbreak Relief Fund in the last 36 hours. A relief and rehabilitation package is being prepared for the affected people, families and businesses. The work of preparing business recovery package for affected individuals and business institutions has also been started. Besides, the arrangement of depositing one month’s salary/remuneration of all the members of the Council of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, in the relief fund has been extended.
19. National and international cooperation has been mobilized together for relief, rescue and rehabilitation. Necessary resources are being collected in coordination with security bodies, health institutions, Red Cross, Nepal Scout, voluntary organizations, private sector and development partners.

20. Finally, Prime Minister Shah congratulated and congratulated Nepalese MMA player Ravindra Dhant for winning the ‘Road to UFC’ and entering the finals. He also thanked them for informing the international community about the disaster situation in Nepal.
Prime Minister Shah said that the entire attention of the government is currently focused on the affected citizens. He said that the government is continuously working to understand the ground situation, take necessary decisions and mobilize resources accordingly.
