British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has resigned from the post of Prime Minister and leader of the Labor Party on Monday. Addressing the nation outside 10 Downing Street, he said the Labor Party does not think I am the right person to lead it at the next election.

Britain will get a new Prime Minister by July 17
Starmer said the Labor Party would choose its new leader by mid-July. He will remain in his post until the new leader and Prime Minister are elected. He also said that he will give full support to his successor.
Starmer said he informed Britain’s King Charles III of his decision on Monday morning. Now the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labor Party will decide the schedule for the election of the new leader.
Under this, the nomination process will start from July 9 and efforts will be made to complete the election of the new leader before the summer vacation of Parliament starting from July 17.
In Britain, the public does not directly elect the Prime Minister. People elect MPs from their respective areas. The leader of the party which has majority in the Parliament becomes the Prime Minister.
Right now there is a Labor Party government. Therefore, the person who will become the new leader of the Labor Party will be the biggest contender to become the Prime Minister. For this there is no need to hold general elections in the entire country.

Britain will get its sixth Prime Minister in 7 years
Starmer will be the sixth British Prime Minister to step down before the completion of his term in the last 10 years. Earlier, David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak could not complete their tenure.
David Cameron resigned after the defeat in the Brexit referendum in 2016. Theresa May, who became Prime Minister after him, could not get the Brexit agreement passed by the Parliament and had to step down in 2019. Liz Truss became Prime Minister after Johnson, but her economic policies caused huge turmoil in the market. She could remain in office only for 49 days and had to resign in October 2022. After him, Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister, but he also left the post in July 2024 after rising inflation, economic challenges and the defeat of the Conservative Party in the general elections.
Now with the resignation of Keir Starmer, Britain is going to get its sixth Prime Minister in seven years and seventh Prime Minister in 10 years.

This is the reason why in Britain, as soon as the party’s support weakens, the need to change the Prime Minister quickly arises.
The rules of Britain’s big parties also make it easier to remove leaders. If 15% of the MPs in the Conservative Party write a letter against any leader, then a no-confidence motion can be brought against him. At the same time, another leader in the Labor Party can stake claim only if he gets the support of more than 20% of the MPs and members of the party.
