British F-35B Stealth Fighter Jet at Kagoshima Airport in Japan.
On Sunday, a British F-35B Stealth Fighter Jet had to make emergency landing at Kagoshima Airport in Japan due to technical fault.
According to Kyodo News, the airport officials said that the incident occurred at around 11:30 am. Due to this, the runway of the airport remained closed for about 20 minutes, delaying many commercial flights. However, no injuries are reported.
This jet was part of Britain’s aircraft carrier strikegroup. Which is participating in a joint military exercise with Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force and the US Army starting on 4 August.
This exercise will run till August 12. This is the second emergency landing of British F-35B in the last two months. Earlier, on 14 June, an F-35B had to make an emergency landing due to a hydraulic system malfunction in Kerala, India.
F-35B will join the strike group after repair
Britain has deployed its aircraft carrier group in the Western Pacific region for this exercise. According to Japanese News NHK, HMS Prince of Wales is on a large mission in the Indo-Pacific sector since April.
It has stopped at the ports of Mediterinian, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan and Australia. According to Birmingham Live, the emergency landing jet in Japan is different from the jet stuck in India.
In Kagoshima, this jet is now under investigation and is under the supervision of RAF personnel. Its strike group is expected to join back after repair.
Locked from India after 38 days
This is the second emergency landing of British F-35B. Earlier, on 14 June, another F-35B of HMS Prince of Wales had to make an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram Airport in Kerala, India due to a malfunction in the hydraulic system.
The 918 crore aircraft was part of the UK’s Royal Navy’s HMS Prince of Wales Career Strike Group. It is considered one of the most advanced fighter jets worldwide. HMS experts had said that Britain’s engineering team was helpful in fixing the jet.
The jet stood there for 38 days and left on July 22 after repair. The British High Commission thanked Indian officials for their support.
After emergency landing on 14 June, F-35B left from Thiruvananthapuram Airport in Kerala on 22 July.
F-35 jet is famous by the name of Lightning
The F-35 model is a short tech off/vertical landing (Stovl) variant of the F-35 model fighter jet, known as Lightning in British Services, is designed to operate from short-field base and air capable ships.
F-35B is the fifth generation only fighter jet with a small flight and capacity of vertical landing. Which makes it ideal for operating with small decks, simple bases and ships.
F-35B has been developed by Lockheed Martin Company. This plane was started to be made from 2006. It has been included in the US Air Force since 2015.
It is the most expensive aircraft in the history of Pentagon. The US spends an average of $ 82.5 million (about Rs 715 crore) on an F-35 fighter plane.
