Babar Azam (right) and Fakhar Zaman both were included in the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup.
The medical panel of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that the fitness of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman was not completely good when they were included in the T20 World Cup squad.
According to the panel, both the players had not fully recovered from the injury, yet they were selected. Senior selector Aaqib Javed had also raised questions regarding this matter in the press conference last week and demanded an investigation into the selection process.

Babar Azam was able to score only 91 runs in 6 matches of T-20 World Cup 2026.
The investigation after the World Cup revealed
According to a source associated with the PCB, UK sports physiotherapy expert Dr. Javed Mughal expressed this concern after examining both the players after the World Cup. He has been with the Pakistan team since January.
Babar refused to play domestic T-20 league
The matter came to light when Babar Azam, after returning from the World Cup, refused to play in the National T20 Championship citing problem in his hamstring. Fakhar Zaman was also struggling with a similar problem for a long time.
The source said that during investigation, Babar’s injury turned out to be more serious than initial assessment, while Fakhar has also been suffering from the same problem for months.

Babar Azam has scored 4596 runs in 145 matches for Pakistan.
We had already taken clearance – Selection Panel
The selection committee made it clear to the medical panel that before including both the players in the team, fitness clearance was taken from team physio Cliff Deacon. However, Deacon has already been accused of allowing players to play despite minor injuries due to his close relationship with them.
Babar is currently rehabbing
Currently, Babar Azam is rehabbing under the supervision of the medical panel at the National Cricket Academy. He is expected to captain Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League, which begins on March 26.
Fakhar was not fit for the ODI series
Fakhar Zaman recently played in a match of the National T-20 Cup. He told on social media on Tuesday that he was not completely fit in the ODI series against Bangladesh, but is now ready for the T20 tournament.

Fakhar Zaman played only 3 matches in the T20 World Cup.
Both players did not play in Bangladesh tour
Both players were out of the Bangladesh tour, in which Pakistan lost 1-2. According to sources, even before the injury came to light, the selectors had already decided to drop Babar out due to his poor form in the World Cup.
