Bangladesh’s interim government has directed seven ambassadors and high commissioners to return to Dhaka.

The interim government of Bangladesh has decided to recall its ambassadors posted in the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Germany, UAE and Maldives. They were appointed during the tenure of Sheikh Hasina.

Major administrative reshuffles are taking place in Bangladesh after the formation of the interim government on August 8. Separate notifications related to the recall of ambassadors of 7 countries have also been issued on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It said that ambassadors and high commissioners have been transferred to Dhaka. They have been ordered to leave their current responsibilities and return to Dhaka.

Counselor and secretary also called back
Apart from the high commissioner and ambassadors, the contractual appointments of Secretary Wahiduzzaman Noor and Counsellor Arifa Rehman Ruma in Washington, Counsellor Aparna Rani Pal and Counsellor Mobashveera Farzana in Ottawa, Canada and Secretary Asib Uddin Ahmed in New York have been cancelled. These five have been called back to the country before August 31.

UN team will reach Dhaka to investigate the violence
According to the Bengali newspaper Dhaka Tribune, a team of UN experts will visit Bangladesh next week. The team will investigate the killings of protesters before and after PM Hasina’s resignation.

An official said this would be the first time since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971 that a UN team would arrive to investigate human rights violations.

Interim government chief Muhammad Yunus said the UN is sending an investigation team next week to probe atrocities during protests in Bangladesh.

Protest demanding recall and prosecution of Hasina
Violence has started in Bangladesh over the demand to call back former PM Sheikh Hasina to the country and prosecute her. Thousands of different student groups demonstrated at Shaheed Minar in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Thursday.

The protesters said that action should be taken against the top officials in the Hasina government. The students involved in the protest said that Sheikh Hasina had ordered firing during the student movement. Action should be taken against all those responsible for this incident.

Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister on August 5 following massive protests and left the country. She has been living in India since then.

Foreign Minister said- If Hasina gives a statement while staying in India, relations will deteriorate
Bangladesh’s interim government’s foreign minister Mohammad Tauhid Hussain on Thursday made a statement about Sheikh Hasina’s return to the country. He said that the government will soon decide on the extradition of the former prime minister as the cases against her are increasing.

Hussain said that the final decision on the extradition of Sheikh Hasina depends on the country’s Home and Law Minister. If they take a decision in this regard, then we will have to ask India to call her back. He said that Hasina is trying to get political asylum by staying in Delhi. This is creating an embarrassing situation for India.

Earlier, Touhid Hussain had told the Indian High Commissioner that if Sheikh Hasina, who is in India, made a statement, the relationship would be spoiled. According to BBC, he said that the statement of the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh is uncomfortable for the Bangladesh government.

Sheikh Hasina and other members of her party Awami League have been booked for murder and kidnapping in Bangladesh. A genocide case has been filed against them in the International Tribunal. She fled the country on 5 August 2024 amid violent riots and protests across the country.
