Bangladesh court has issued arrest warrant against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 others.

Asif Nazrul, Law Minister in the interim government of Bangladesh, said on Friday that if India tries to refuse the extradition of former PM Sheikh Hasina, it will be strongly opposed.

According to news agency PTI, Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal had issued an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina, after which Nazrul made this comment. The Bangladeshi court on Thursday had ordered to produce Hasina before it by November 18.

Minister Nazrul said that there is already an extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India. India can refuse to send Sheikh Hasina here citing rules, but honestly speaking India is bound to send Hasina to Bangladesh.

Foreign Ministry said- Sheikh Hasina in India due to security reasons Sheikh Hasina has been accused of violence and human rights violations during the student movement. More than 200 cases are pending against him.

Sheikh Hasina had come to India with her younger sister after the massive violence on August 5. After this Bangladesh canceled his diplomatic passport.

India’s Foreign Ministry had said on Thursday that Sheikh Hasina had come to India due to security reasons and she is still here. It is believed that Sheikh Hasina has been kept in some unknown place. He has not been seen in public since then.

Nazrul said last month that Bangladesh would formally seek Hasina’s extradition when the trial process begins. At the same time, Sheikh Hasina’s opposition leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that giving shelter to Hasina is like giving shelter to a murderer and a criminal. We have to bring him back through the proper diplomatic process.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Mohammad Tauheed Hussain had said in September that India would decide whether to hand over Sheikh Hasina or not.

Extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh made easier According to the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, apart from the arrest warrant, both the countries also had to share the evidence of the crime. However, this rule was abolished in the year 2016 so that extradition of criminals could happen quickly.

According to the treaty, if a person has committed any crime related to politics, his extradition can be refused, but the list of which crimes will not be called political is quite long. These include crimes like murder, disappearance, bomb blasts and terrorism. Extradition cannot be refused in such a serious case.
