On August 5, 2024, Sheikh Hasina government was counted after a long student movement in Bangladesh. Hasina had to leave the country and flee. With this, the situation in Bangladesh worsened. The police became underground overnight.

Considering the political change of Bangladesh, Younus told the representatives, “Last year, in this gathering, I spoke of a country that went through a public rebellion. I shared our aspirations of change with you. Today, I stand here to tell you how far we have come in that journey.”

He added, “Three out of every 100 people live in Bangladesh. Our migrant laborers work in many countries of the world. 71 lakh Bangladeshi live abroad, who sent about 18 billion US dollars in 2019. Their hard work is beneficial for both host countries and Bangladesh. So all countries should take care of their safety and honor.”

Yunus, in his address, also appealed to revive SAARC (South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization) and termed international cooperation.

Yunus said- problems between Bangladesh and India

Yunus said on 24 September that there were problems between Bangladesh and India. He said at an event in New York on Thursday that Sheikh Hasina being in India is making the relationship between the two countries difficult, as they are hosting them who have created all these problems.

Yunus alleged that India did not like the work of student leaders. He had said- “India is spreading fake news against us. Different types of propagation are being done as it is an Islamic movement that has captured Bangladesh. They say that I am also Taliban.”

Yunus said- SAARC does not fit into the politics of a country

Yunus discussed improving relationship with Pakistani PM

Yunus met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting took place on 24 September, in which trade and economic relations between the two countries were discussed.

This was the second meeting of these leaders, the first meeting was in UNGA last year. Since the formation of an interim government under the leadership of Younis in August 2024 in Bangladesh, the relationship between the two countries has increased.

Previously, the relationship between the two countries was tense under the 15 -year rule of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government. The reason for this was the 1971 massacre, war crimes cases and political issues.

Yunus appealed to American companies to increase investment in Bangladesh

US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) did the ‘US-Bangladesh Executive Business Round Table: Advanceing Reform, Regulation and Growth’ at a hotel in New York on 24 September.

In this, Younus appealed to the US top companies to invest more in Bangladesh. Yunus said in the meeting that there are many opportunities for investment in Bangladesh and the country’s economy is getting stronger.

He said that in February next year, Bangladesh will have fair elections and the new government will create more favorable environment for investors.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of big American companies like MetLife, Chevron and Accelerate Energy. He also interacted with Bangladesh’s political representative team.

BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party leaders were present in the team. Yunus introduced these leaders to American businessmen. Advisors of foreign affairs and energy were also present in the meeting.
