Considering the political change of Bangladesh, Younus told the representatives, “Last year, in this gathering, I spoke of a country that went through a public rebellion. I shared our aspirations of change with you. Today, I stand here to tell you how far we have come in that journey.”

He added, “Three out of every 100 people live in Bangladesh. Our migrant laborers work in many countries of the world. 71 lakh Bangladeshi live abroad, who sent about 18 billion US dollars in 2019. Their hard work is beneficial for both host countries and Bangladesh. So all countries should take care of their safety and honor.”

Yunus, in his address, also appealed to revive SAARC (South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization) and termed international cooperation.

Yunus met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The meeting took place on 24 September, in which trade and economic relations between the two countries were discussed.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of big American companies like MetLife, Chevron and Accelerate Energy. He also interacted with Bangladesh’s political representative team.
