The Bombay High Court will hear the case of sexual abuse of two girls inside a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra today. On 21 August, the Bombay High Court took suo motu cognizance of the case. The court heard the case on 22 August. During this, the court said that now even 4-year-old girls are not being spared. What kind of a situation is this?
The court reprimanded the police and said that the statement of the second girl and her family was recorded after we took cognizance of the matter. Why was there a delay in this till now?
The court said that if the school itself is not safe then what is the point of talking about the right to education and other things. The High Court has asked to register a case under POCSO against the school administration for hiding the information of the case. The bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan has also asked the government for a copy of the case diary and FIR. Advocate General Birendra Saraf presented the government’s side in the court.

On August 20, the police fired tear gas shells to control the crowd. The protesters picked them up and threw them back at the police.
The court said- why no case was filed against the school administration
In the hearing on August 22, the court had asked the government questions about the case. The court asked, did the girls complain about sexual abuse to the school administration. The government said – yes. The court also questioned the school administration about making them accused.
The government said that an SIT has been formed. Now a case will be registered. The court reprimanded the police and said that as soon as the girl’s parents filed an FIR, you should have registered a case against the school authorities.
The court said that we are surprised to know that the Badalpur police did not even record the statement of the second girl’s family. When we took cognizance, the police recorded the statement of the second girl’s father, that too after midnight. How can you record the statement after midnight? Why so much delay?
The High Court said that the girls themselves have given information about sexual abuse. It takes a lot of courage to speak about it. The court told the state government and the police that if you try to suppress the case in any way, then we will not hesitate to take action.

On August 20, protesters opened the main gate of the school and entered inside and vandalized it.
The girls used to call the accused as grandfather
Police investigation has revealed that the accused was appointed on contract in the school on August 1. The girl used to call him Dada (Marathi word for elder brother). According to the girl, ‘Dada’ opened her clothes and touched her inappropriately. There was no female staff in the school where the incident took place.

Child commission said- school administration tried to suppress the case
Susiben Shah, Chairperson of Maharashtra State Child Rights Protection Commission, alleged that the school hid the crime instead of helping the parents of the girls.
