France, Monaco, Malta, Luxembourg and Belgium have recognized Palestine as an independent country. Late Monday night, a meeting was held in New York to resolve the Israeli-Pilistine dispute between UN member countries, where it was announced.
The meeting was chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. At the meeting, French President Emmanuel Macron said that today France recognizes Palestine, we have to make a way of peace.
Macron called it Hamas’s necklace. He rang a loud applause on his point and the Palestinian delegation stood up and welcomed it.
At the same time, UN General Secretary Antonio Gutrus said
Palestinians have their right to get state status, no reward. Peace is not possible without it.
On the other hand, Israel strongly opposed this initiative. Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon said that his government would answer it.
Belgium recognized with conditions
Belgium has laid a condition on the recognition of Palestine. According to this, this will be legally implemented when Hamas in Gaza will be removed from power and all Israeli hostages will be released.
Earlier on Sunday, 4 countries- Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal recognized Palestine. So far, about 150 countries have recognized Palestine.
Palestinian President asked Hamas to lay down arms
Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas has said that Hamas will have no role in ruling Gaza in future. He asked Hamas to give up arms.
Abbas also promised to hold the President and Parliamentary elections after the war in Gaza ended. He said that we will prepare an interim constitution within three months, so that the state can be assigned power to the state.
Abbas thanked the countries that have recognized Palestine. He also appealed that the rest of the countries should do this and help Palestine to get the United Nations full membership.
Abbas attended the meeting virtually as the US refused to give him a visa to attend the United Nations Summit.
Why are the countries close to America recognizing Palestine
According to the BBC, for many years, governments of Western countries have been saying that Palestine will be given recognition when the situation is correct. He believed that just giving recognition would not change the reality. But now the situation has deteriorated so much that governments are feeling pressure.
Amidst 2 years of war on Gaza, pictures of hunger and ruin, Israel’s frequent military action is changing the world’s opinion about Israel. For these reasons, many countries have decided to recognize Palestine.
75% country has recognized Palestine
Palestine has been recognized by about 75% of the 193 member countries of the United Nations. It has the status of ‘Permanent Observer State’ at the United Nations.
This means that Palestine is allowed to attend the United Nations programs but does not have the right to vote.
After France’s recognition, Palestine will get the support of 4 permanent countries in 5 of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Both China and Russia recognized Palestine in 1988. In such a situation, America will be the only country that has not recognized Palestine. He has recognized the Palestinian Authority (PA).
The Palestinian Authority was formed in 1994 so that the Palestinians have their local government -like arrangements and later it could be the foundation of becoming the entire state.
