Haq actress Yami Gautam read the Quran for about four months to prepare for her character and maintain the authenticity of the film. The film’s director Suparn Verma told this in an interview given to BBC Asian Network.

Suparn Verma told that during the research of the film, it took the team about one and a half years to understand Islamic law. He told that the references and dialogues of Quran have been presented realistically in the film. Therefore, in the end, special importance was given to the word ‘Iqra’. He said that an attempt was made in the film to show issues like triple talaq and dower in the right context.

Apart from Yami Gautam, the film Haq also featured actors like Emraan Hashmi, Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain and Asim Hattangadi. The story of the film was based on issues like gender equality, justice and personal dignity. In the story, Shazia (Yami Gautam) approaches the court after her husband (Emraan Hashmi) marries a second time and refuses to pay her maintenance.

The film was written by Reshu Nath.

Made in collaboration with Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the film was released in theaters in November 2025. After this it was released on OTT platform Netflix on 2 January 2026.

Alia became a fan of Yami after watching the film Haq

The film was praised by celebs like Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani and Sanjay Kapoor. Alia shared a note on her Instagram story and described herself as Yami’s fan.
