Actress Laila Khan had gone to Igatpuri Farmhouse for a holiday with her family. But then suddenly he and his entire family went missing. After a year-long search, excavations were carried out and their skeletons were found at the exact place from where they had gone missing. In Part-1 of Case-1 of Bollywood Crime Files, read the story of disappearance, murder and search of actress Laila Khan and her family – That Igatpuri farmhouse, 150 kilometers away from Mumbai…. It was February 2011, the whole family was going together for a holiday. There was an atmosphere of fun and games, everyone had already made up their mind about the entertainment, songs and doing something in the farmhouse. 7 people of the house, Laila, Laila’s mother Celina, sisters Zara, Afreen (Azmina), cousin Reshma, brother Imran and stepfather Parvez Tak left for the farmhouse in 2 vehicles. Laila’s mother Selina was very modern. She had maintained herself in such a way that she looked more like an elder sister than Laila’s mother. Although her real name was Athiya Patel, but during the era of modernization she changed her name to Celina. Her first marriage was to Nadir Patel, from whom she had a daughter, Laila. When it became difficult for Nadir Patel to survive in a big city like Mumbai, he went to South Africa in search of a job. Soon he got a decent job and Nadir settled there. Celina remained alone with her daughter Laila in Mumbai. Nadir used to pay him the expenses at the beginning of every month. Nadir used to come to Mumbai during Eid-Diwali and return after staying for a day or two. It was around 1988, when in the absence of her husband, Celina started growing closer to Asif Shaikh, who lived in Mira Road, Mumbai. Asif was also divorced and lived alone. Tired of loneliness, Celina married Asif Sheikh for the second time without divorcing her first husband. From this marriage he had three children, Zara, Imran and Afreen (Azmina). With time, differences between Celina and Asif also started and both of them got divorced. After living alone for a few years, in 2010, Celina married Parvez Tak of Kashmir for the third time. Parvez was much younger than Celina in age, despite this there was no impact on their relationship. With time, Laila’s family adopted Parvez and he became an important part of their household. When Laila’s family went to Igatpuri farmhouse in February 2011, Parvez Tak was also with them. Half of the shooting of the film Jinnat had been completed and Laila was about to complete the film after returning from holidays. He had already told this to director-producer Rakesh Sawant. The shooting of the film was to begin in mid-February 2011. When director Rakesh Sawant called Laila to confirm the dates, the number was switched off. They thought there might be a network problem, but then days and weeks passed, and then a whole month passed. Rakesh Sawant started getting upset. The shooting was getting postponed. Money was getting stuck and there were fears of huge losses. Now a question arose in Rakesh Sawant’s mind – ‘Has Laila run away with my money?’ Rakesh neither looked nor looked, he went straight to Laila’s address. Rakesh and Laila lived in Phase-4 of the same Sunshine Building, while Laila lived at number 6. He did not find it appropriate to go home, so he went straight to the building secretary. He told the secretary- ‘I want to meet Laila.’ Before he could finish speaking, a voice came from behind, ‘Who are you?’ When Rakesh turned, he saw that Laila’s stepfather was Asif Sheikh. Rakesh knew Laila’s family closely and was familiar with every member. Asif Shaikh came closer and said angrily – ‘Get out of here.’ Now Rakesh paused and said, ‘He has signed my film, do I have a contract?’ Got the reply – ‘No contract-no contract, get out of here.’ He is in foreign. Rakesh did not expect such a reply, but now his anger turned into worry. He reached Oshiwara Police Station located directly in front of the building. Told the whole matter. Said- ‘Laila can’t be found, I have to file her missing complaint.’ The police directly said- ‘Are you related to him by blood? No. You cannot file a complaint. Rakesh was adamant in finding Laila. He then showed the contract and said, ‘My money is stuck.’ On his insistence, the police replied, ‘Okay, we will write the complaint, if we get some updates, we will let you know.’ Not just Laila, the entire family was missing. When a police complaint was made, this news also reached the crime reporter of that time, Nishat Shamsi, but in this manner – ‘The well-known heroine ran away with the producer’s money.’ Nishat got interested in the story. When he started research, this seemingly common story started pointing towards something very untoward. Nishat came to know that not only Laila Khan but her entire family was missing for several months. Neither the family was seen anywhere, nor was anyone talking to them. It was difficult for a reporter to get to the bottom of the matter, so he sought help from the police. Like Rakesh, he also went to lodge a missing complaint, but got the same answer – ‘You are not related by blood.’ Nishat took the longer route this time. With a long struggle, he found the number of Laila Khan’s stepfather Asif Shaikh. Asif himself refused to help, but on Nishat’s insistence he gave the number of Laila Khan’s biological father Nadir Patel. When Nadir received the call, he refused to talk as soon as he heard Laila’s name. Nadir had left the family and was working in Ethiopia, Africa. Nishat somehow handled the matter and told them that Laila and her family were missing. There is no news of him. The police will not file a complaint until relatives come forward. Nadir Patel wanted to help, but the situation was such that he did not have the money to come to India. Nishat herself made arrangements for his coming to India. Then the search for Laila Khan and her family started. When this case reached Mumbai Police, they adopted a very cold attitude towards it. Producer Rakesh Sawant was also repeatedly visiting the police station for updates due to fear of losing money. Once he was asked to stay away from the case saying that Laila was Pakistani, she was in contact with terrorists, worked with Dawood Ibrahim. Seeing Rakesh Sawant getting involved in the case again and again, the former police commissioner involved in the investigation of this case even said, “Why are you complicating the case? Laila is a terrorist. Rakhi Sawant will also face problems because of your stupidity. Don’t interfere in this case.” Now these few months turned into years. With time the case cooled down. Rakesh Sawant also accepted that Laila ran away with the money. But then something happened that this case not only came into discussion but also became the most horrifying case in the film world. June 2012: A terrorist bomb blast took place in Kishtwar, Kashmir. Investigation revealed that a car was found in a shop on Om Mehta Road, located at some distance from the place where the blast took place. The black colored luxury Outlander car had Maharashtra number (MH02BY7867). Neighbors told the ATS team that this car was there for about 8 months. No one took it out or used it. When the registration number was checked, it was revealed that this car found in Kashmir was registered in the name of Laila Khan’s mother Celina. Laila was already being called a terrorist, so finding her car at a place where a terrorist bomb blast took place was quite strange. What was even more strange was that the entire family was missing. It was natural to raise the question whether Laila Khan, who was associated with terrorism, had a hand in this bomb blast, whether Laila Khan went missing with her family as part of a well-planned conspiracy. It was a coincidence that at the time of the bomb blast, producer Rakesh Sawant was also shooting in Kashmir. One day Farooq Abdullah (former Chief Minister of Kashmir) organized a get-together. Many big people of Kashmir attended it. Then a police officer called Rakesh Sawant near and asked – “Do you know any Laila Khan? She lives in Bombay, has done a film with Rajesh Khanna.” Rakesh immediately said, ‘Yes, the film you are talking about is my film.’ Rakesh told the entire story from his side and the police officer told his. As soon as Rakesh heard this, he realized that something was wrong. Kashmir Police’s investigation revealed that the shop where Laila Khan’s car was found was rented by Parvez Tak 10 months ago. He used to pay the rent every month, but did not come, he just parked the car in that shop. Now the police was looking for Parvez Tak. As the investigation intensified, many layers were revealed. It came to light that Parvez had gone to Igatpuri farmhouse with Laila’s family, since then the family is missing. While searching Laila’s house, Parvez’s Voter ID card was also found. It was necessary to reach Laila Khan for information about the car. The crime branch was also investigating the case. In June 2012, Mumbai Police team, Crime Branch team and forensic team reached Igatpuri Farmhouse. Investigation took place for hours, but no clue was found. On the other hand, Parvez Tak’s friend from Kashmir was arrested. He helped the police and helped trace Parvez. On June 12, Parvez Tak was finally arrested from the Kashmir border. He was planning to escape to Pakistan. Parvez had to answer many questions. First question – What does it have to do with the bomb blast in Kashmir? The second most important question – where are Laila Khan and her family. Parvez Tak had nothing to do with the bomb blast in Kashmir. But he knew a lot about Laila Khan. He gave a strange statement to the police. First, he said, Laila ran away to Dubai. Then when he became strict he said – Laila’s family was shot dead a year ago. This was true. Laila was indeed no longer in this world, but Parvez had not told the complete truth. The next day, Crime Branch, Mumbai Police and forensic team reached the same farmhouse on his information. Parvez was walking ahead and all the team followed him. Parvez came inside the farmhouse, looked around, stayed for a while and then came out from the back side. This time he was nervous. He slowly raised one hand and pointed towards the ground with his finger. As soon as the signal was received, the police started digging. An hour passed, 2 and then 3. Nothing was found. The police had dug up to 15 feet, everyone was sweating in the heat of June. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ambadas Pote also came down to the pit and asked the team to keep digging. Suddenly his eyes fell on a strange thing. Many things are buried in the ground, but that scene was different. When I came closer and noticed, it was the bone of a finger or thumb. After some silence the commotion intensified. Now everyone put down the tools and started removing the soil with their hands. It was not a finger or a thumb but a complete skeleton. The excavation intensified and three skeletons were found. There was not even a shred of flesh on the bones, there were just some rags of clothes. Some skeletons had a chain around their neck and some had a bracelet on their bony wrist. There were also torn mattresses under them. As soon as those mattresses were picked up, there were 3 more skeletons in front of the police. There were jeans in the lower part of one skeleton, which had not decomposed. It had the logo of the Killer brand, as if the skeleton was that of a boy. There was also a skeleton of an animal nearby. The condition of the skeletons was so bad that they were packed in bags and sent for forensic examination. Parvez did not sit, he kept staring at the digging. When all the skeletons came out, he signaled them to stop. There were just so many skeletons. But whose skeletons were those? Did he belong to Laila Khan and family? Did Laila Khan’s family get away with the murders? Know the answers to all these questions tomorrow, Wednesday, January 21, in Part-2 of Laila Khan murder case of Bollywood Crime Files. 6 skeletons of the actress’s family were dug out from the ground: Buried with a dog a year ago, the murderer kept crushing the head till he was satisfied (Note: This news has been written on the basis of conversation with director Rakesh Sawant, who filed the missing complaint of Laila Khan, old interview of Deputy Commissioner of Police Ambadas Pote, who is investigating the case and research of Dainik Bhaskar’s senior reporter Varsha Rai.)
