The Maharashtra government on Thursday gave non-Marathi speaking auto and taxi drivers one year to learn basic Marathi. Chief Minister Fadnavis said that no action will be taken against the drivers during this period. This decision is like a ban on the condition of Marathi language for one year. Representatives of auto-rickshaw and taxi driver organizations had met Fadnavis and sought more time to follow the rules. Fadnavis said that the organizations have supported the condition of making working knowledge of Marathi mandatory for drivers working in Mumbai.
