Former Air Force Chief and BJP leader RKS Bhadauria said on Thursday that it is wrong to drag the army into politics. He termed Rahul Gandhi’s claim that the family of martyr Agniveer did not get compensation as false and said that Rahul should apologize to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the country.
Actually, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said in the Lok Sabha that Rs 1 crore is given as compensation to the family of martyred Agniveer. On this, Rahul Gandhi released a video on Wednesday evening and said – Rajnath is lying. The father of martyred Agniveer of Ludhiana said that he did not get any compensation.
After Rahul Gandhi’s claim, the army posted on X that Rs 98 lakh has been given to the martyr’s family. According to media reports, on Thursday morning the martyr’s father also admitted that he has received Rs 98 lakh.
Regarding this, RKS Bhadauria said- Agniveer Yojana is a good scheme and it has been brought after a long discussion. The Indian Army should not get involved in such politics. This is a sensitive issue.
Rahul had released this video on Wednesday evening and said that Rajnath Singh had lied in front of Shivji’s picture in Parliament. Charanjit Singh said that the Bhagwant Mann government has also assured a job to one of his daughters. Apart from this, the family has received Rs 48 lakh from the army, but nothing from the central government. Agniveer Ajay was martyred in a landmine explosion

Ajay Singh, a resident of Ramgarh Sardar village in Khanna area of Ludhiana district, started preparing for army recruitment after passing 12th. In February 2022, he joined the army under the Agniveer scheme. He was martyred on 23 January 2024 after being hit by a landmine explosion in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to martyr Ajay Singh’s father Charanjit Singh, after 6 daughters, a son Ajay was born in his family. Charanjit Singh used to work as a labourer in the village. He and his wife, both raised Ajay with great difficulty by working in the fields of the landlords. Their daughters worked in private jobs. When Ajay grew up a little, he started painting people’s houses and shops. Sometimes he also used to go to work as a daily wage labourer with a mason.
Why was the Agnipath scheme introduced?
- At present, recruitment is being done under this scheme in every cadre except medical. They can be posted anywhere in Army, Navy, Air Force. The service of Agniveers can be terminated anytime. They cannot leave the service before four years, but in special cases, this is possible with the permission of the competent officer.
- The government says that this scheme will provide employment to talented youth of civil society and the average age of serving soldiers can be reduced. The government also argues that with the arrival of the new generation, our forces will be technically rich and our security forces will be modern. When these Agniveers will finish their service after four years and go into social life, the society will get an army of disciplined and skilled youth.
- Some experts believe that the government has launched this scheme to reduce the defense pension amount increasing year after year. Due to new permanent recruitments, the pension burden on the government was increasing every year.
- According to a research by the Observer Research Foundation, one Agniveer costs the government Rs 1.75 lakh less per year than a full-time recruit. There will be a saving of Rs 1,054 crore on salaries for a batch of 60,000 Agniveers.
