Union Minister Piyush Goyal has blamed Europe for the climate crisis. He said that the population of Europe is half that of India, but the per capita carbon emissions there are 7 to 8 times more. Goyal said during an event in Germany that along with fulfilling its responsibilities related to climate change, India also has to meet the needs of 1.4 billion people. The country’s population is 17% of the total world population. ‘Who is first responsible for this crisis?’ Questioning the European countries, Goyal said, “Who is first responsible for this entire mess? Where did the damage to the ozone layer come from? Who released so much carbon into the atmosphere?” He said that Europe’s share in global emissions and its per capita environmental impact has been much higher than that of India. “Even sitting here today, my per capita carbon emissions are probably 10% or 15% less than yours,” Goyal said. India is at third place in generating electricity from wind and solar energy. Goyal said that India is emphasizing on stopping wastage of resources and reusing things. Despite these challenges, India is progressing rapidly in the field of clean energy. The country’s clean energy program is among the fastest growing in the world. According to Amber, an organization that monitors the energy sector, in 2024, India would surpass Germany and reach third place in the world in terms of generating electricity from wind and solar energy. At the same time, there is a record increase in electricity production from renewable energy in India in 2025. Electricity generation from solar, wind, hydropower and bioenergy increased by a total of 98 terawatt-hours. ——————- Also read this news… Earthquake of 7 magnitude in Tibet, 16 deaths, 54 injured: Center was at a depth of 10 km; Tremors in Pakistan-Afghanistan also.
