PM Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Uzbekistan. Today PM will visit Shastri Memorial and Mahatma Gandhi Center in Tashkent. This will be his fourth visit to Uzbekistan as Prime Minister.
There will be a meeting between Modi and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent. In this, trade, investment, defence, energy, education and increasing mutual cooperation will be discussed.
In the meeting, new ways to increase cooperation under India’s Developed India 2047 and Uzbekistan-2030 vision will also be discussed. After this we will leave for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan tour: Modi to attend SCO summit, meet Jinping-Putin
After the Uzbekistan tour, Prime Minister Modi will stay in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 1. Here he will participate in the 26th summit of SCO.
India is a full member of SCO since 2017. Issues like security, terrorism, trade, connectivity and economic cooperation will be discussed in the summit.
During the summit, Modi may meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of other countries.
Modi will also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games to be held in Bishkek.
Why is this tour important for India; 4 points
1. Mineral reserves: India has been trying to strengthen its relations with the countries of Central Asia for a long time. Central Asia has large reserves of oil, gas, uranium and other important minerals.
2. Energy Need: India wants to increase cooperation with countries in the region to meet its energy needs.
3. New Business Routes: India also wants to increase trade with the countries of Central Asia. For this, he is working on developing new trade and transportation routes.
4. Campaign against terrorism: India is also increasing cooperation with these countries on issues like situation in Afghanistan and terrorism.

2016: Modi had attended the SCO summit in Tashkent. During this conference, the process of giving full membership of the organization to India was progressed. India became a full member of SCO in 2017.
2022: Modi had attended the SCO summit in Samarkand. Amidst the Russia-Ukraine war, he had told Russian President Putin, ‘Today is not the era of war.’ His statement became a topic of discussion worldwide.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a regional international organization established in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Later India and Pakistan joined it in 2017. Iran also became its member in 2023.
The objective of SCO is to enhance security, economic and political cooperation among the member countries. The organization formulates joint strategies on issues such as terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and cyber crime.
