The dispute between Congress and TVK increased in Tamil Nadu regarding the candidature for the post of PM in 2029.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the seat of Congress MLA Tharhai Cuthbert has been changed in the assembly. Now he will sit on the bench with the opposition in the Assembly.
On Sunday itself, State Tourism Minister S. Rajesh Kumar had talked about making Rahul Gandhi the Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. He had said that if TVK did not support Rahul Gandhi, then the Congress leaders included in the cabinet would resign from the post of ministers.
TVK’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Aadhav Arjun had earlier said that the country’s PM should be a leader from Tamil Nadu. His statement is being linked to projecting party chief Vijay as a possible contender for the post of Prime Minister.
Controversy started after MOTN survey
On 27 August, India Today released its MOTN (Mood of the Nation) survey. According to that survey, PM Narendra Modi still remains the first choice of the people in the race for the post of Prime Minister. In the survey, 48.7% people said him as their first choice. Whereas, Rahul Gandhi is at second place with 27.1%. But 9.2% people said Vijay was their first choice for the post of PM.
DMK said- there is no limit to imagination
DMK leader RS Bharti on Monday took a dig at TVK and said that imagination has no limits. At the same time, Congress leader Karti Chidambaram rejected the ambition of making Vijay the Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, saying that to become the Prime Minister, one has to secure 272 MP seats. At the same time, Congress MP Manickam Tagore has called MOTN’s survey fake.
DMK leader T K S Elangovan on Monday supported the Congress’ stand on projecting Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate and not Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
DMK leader Elangovan said Congress is a major political party in the country and has ruled the country for years. How can TVK wish to project Vijay as the Prime Ministerial candidate?
