It is alleged that traders kept the stock of flour in the warehouses, due to which its availability in the market reduced and the prices increased rapidly. Amidst this crisis, it has also come to light that flour traders have made profits worth crores of rupees in a few days. In many areas, shopkeepers stopped giving a single roti. In areas like Khyber Bazaar, Ashraf Road, Karachi Market, Namak Mandi and Government College Chowk of Peshawar, many shopkeepers are no longer giving a single roti. Customers have to buy two rotis for Rs 40. People say that with the increase in the price of flour, the weight of roti is also being reduced. There is resentment among the people due to the rising prices of flour and bread. He has demanded from the administration to provide flour and roti at the fixed price and also to keep the weight of the roti as per the prescribed standard. Government’s claim – Subsidized flour is still being distributed. The Food Department says that subsidized flour is still being distributed in the entire province. According to the department, last week 4,17,168 bags of flour were supplied at government rates through 1,611 active dealers. Peshawar division received 1,01,955 bags, Malakand 1,20,737 and Mardan 59,389 bags. 38,129 bags were supplied to Hazara, 12,588 to Bannu, 41,688 to Dera Ismail Khan and 42,682 bags to Kohat.
