Senior BJP leader, former Rajya Sabha MP and journalist Balbir Punj has passed away. He breathed his last in a Delhi hospital on Saturday. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday. He was 76 years old. Balbir Punj lived in Sector-17, Noida. One of his daughters lives abroad, while the other lives in Delhi. Although he was originally from Punjab. Used to come to Punjab often. His works were published in many magazines and newspapers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and BJP President Nitin Naveen have expressed grief over his death. Balbir Punj, who was also in-charge of Punjab BJP, was born on 2 October 1949 in Lalowal of Gurdaspur district of Punjab. But he never contested elections from Punjab. Punj started his career with journalism. In 1971, he started working with The Motherland newspaper and in 1974 joined the Financial Express. He held many positions. After this, he came into active politics in the late 1990s and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He worked as the convenor of the intellectual cell in the party for about 10 years. He was also the National Secretary of BJP, in-charge of several states like Punjab, Gujarat, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh and a member of the National Executive. In the year 2013, he was made the National Vice President of BJP. However, he never contested elections in Punjab. Also wrote the book ‘Ayodhya Se Samvad’, ‘Ayodhya Se Samvad’ is one of his most popular books. In this book he has explained the history of Ayodhya dispute in a simple way. He also said that India needs to understand its true identity by taking its thinking and outlook out of the colonial influence (mentality of foreign rule).
