The flood situation has been formed in many places in the whole of North India. Especially from the previous day, the situation in Punjab is worrying. If India is the cause of floods in Pakistan, then it should be thought that why is there flood in Punjab, India? The rivers of Punjab, Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, and Ghaggar are in spate, these rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Due to which there is an outcry in Punjab.
Because of this Punjab More than 1 thousand villages have been affected by floods. The situation is very bad, people associated with disaster management are engaged on a war footing. Efforts are on to take the affected people to safe places.
This is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, soon after returning from the SCO meeting held in China Bhagwant Maan Talked to, and inquired about the situation of floods.
Main rivers
12 out of 23 districts of Punjab have been badly affected by floods. So far, 30 people are reported to have been killed due to floods. About 15 lakh people were affected by this and about 3 lakh people have been shifted to safe places so far. The cultivation of Punjab has also been affected due to floods. About 3 lakh acres of farming land has been affected. Due to which the crop of paddy, cotton, and maize has been completely ruined.
Record level of rain
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of rain for Punjab. That is, there is a possibility of heavy rains. That is why there is less hope of getting relief from this situation of floods quickly.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took stock of flood affected areas on Tuesday. When he was asked questions related to this, he said that what can he do in front of nature. It is true that when nature shows its rage form, all efforts fail in front of it. So does this mean that the people of Punjab should be abandoned by floods?
Punjab is in the grip of flood for the third time in the last 6 years. Earlier in the year 2023 and 2019, Punjab was affected by floods. More than 1500 villages of Punjab were affected in the flood of 2023 and the standing crop on about 2 lakh 21 thousand hectares of land was ruined. Similarly, in 2019 floods, more than 300 villages were affected by floods and thousands of hectares of crop was ruined.
Predetermined infrastructure
So will the state government leave people like this every year. Efforts to avoid flood -like situation are done before the monsoon season. Encroachment is removed on the banks of the river. The embankments of rivers and canals are maintained, silt is cleaned, so that the river flows. The system of drainage in villages and cities is improved so that the water does not stop. But this did not happen in the case of Punjab. This year the situation was worse.
Reduction in preparation to deal with floods
Every year in Punjab, there is a meeting to deal with the flood situation in February. But this year, this meeting was held in June and not in February. In February, the entire focus of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was on Delhi elections and the focus of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also engaged on winning his party.

Management of Bhakra-Nangal Dam
After this, in May, the Punjab government was entangled on whether the water of Bhakra Nangal Dam should be given to Haryana and Rajasthan, and if given, how much quantity should be distributed. There was a lot of ruckus about this because water was being stopped in large quantities in Bhakra Nangal Dam. On this issue, Bhagwant Maan Sarkar, Bhakra Nagal Management Board and Haryana Government were entangled, hence there was no opportunity to prepare to deal with the flood. And when the monsoon received more amount of water from the mountains, then it became compulsory to release more water from Ranjit Sagar, Pong and Bhakra Nagal Dam. The water on these dams had come to a dangerous level. And it is believed that this is also a reason for floods in Punjab.
