Naugam Police Station of Srinagar is situated amidst the most densely populated area of Kashmir. On the night of 14th November at 11.22 pm, the police station suddenly turned into a ball of fire. The explosion was so powerful that a dome of fire rose in the sky over Naugam. What was seen in CCTV seems to be a scene from a war film. People woke up from sleep several kilometers away. The surrounding buildings collapsed. Nine people present at Naugam police station, including an inspector, three experts from CFSL, two photographers from the crime branch, two revenue officers and a local tailor died.
Haryana on 9th November and Jammu and Kashmir A joint team of police had exposed the new ‘doctor module’ of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Faridabad. During the raid here, 360 kg of ammonium nitrate, wires, detonators, batteries and some liquid chemicals were recovered from the rented house of Dr. Muzammil. The police reached Naugam police station, 800 kilometers away from Faridabad, with the ammunition cache. It was kept there in the open courtyard. The CFSL team reached the police station on the evening of 14 November. His job was to sample every packet of gunpowder recovered. The team started their work.
Sampling of the ammonium nitrate pile was almost complete. Now it was the turn of liquid, regarding which special caution was necessary. The CFSL team made separate arrangements for lighting in the police station premises. The cold was intense. The work was in the final stage. At exactly 11:22 PM a massive explosion occurred. The ground of the police station shook, the roof blew off, many buildings collapsed. People sleeping in nearby houses were injured. 9 people died. 35 people were injured. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat said after investigation that this was not a terrorist attack, but a tragic accident caused by human error.
A scientific investigation was started into how this accident happened. Ammonium nitrate is a solid substance, which is used in fertilizer and mines. It cannot explode alone. To make it explosive, fuel oil, petrol, diesel or liquid chemical acetophenone, hydrogen peroxide or sulfuric acid are required. Initial investigation says that at the time of sampling, the same liquid was kept very close to ammonium nitrate. Did he get it by accident? Had it seeped out and mixed in already? Did it escape the notice of the forensic team?
If liquid like sulfuric acid is mixed in ammonium nitrate, it gets converted into TATP i.e. triacetone peroxide. TATP is so sensitive that even a slight spark of static electricity can cause it to explode. In cold weather, sparks generated by combing hair, slight current generated by rubbing of clothes, sparks generated by falling of a stone or iron, anything is enough. Experts say that even minor adulteration in liquid and ammonium nitrate can cause a big blast. Static charge can also be generated while putting it in the container.
Such questions are the same as at what point did the mistake in sampling occur? Why was such a heavy explosive kept in the open amidst the dense population of Naugam? Was there any adulteration between ammonium nitrate and liquid? Were security standards not followed on the night of 14 November? Did the team underestimate the risk of a potential chemical reaction? Is this a case of human negligence, for which 9 people paid the price with their lives? NIA and explosives experts are engaged in investigation. Whatever happened at Naugam police station was not just an accident but an explosion caused by negligence, which was delayed in understanding.
Let us tell you that this white collar terror module was revealed because of a poster put up in Srinagar. On October 17, a poster was found pasted in Naugam area of Srinagar. It was written on it… Jaish-e-Mohammed. Date: 17 October 2025. The language was Urdu, the tone threatening. It was written in it that the people who are helping the agency people in Naugam and surrounding areas are working against Shariat. There was a warning in the poster that such people should desist. Otherwise strict action will be taken against them. Will not be entitled to forgiveness for the last time. That poster had the signature of Commander Hifzullah.
This poster forced Naugam police to take action against each name. In the first action of the investigation, Maulana Mohammad Irfan, a mufti of Naugam, was arrested. After this Doctor Muzammil was caught. Then five more names were caught by Naugam police, whose names are Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir Ul Ashraf, Makhsud Ahmed Dar, Zaheer Ahmed Ahangar and Dr. Adil Rather. Of these seven, except Dr. Muzammil and Dr. Adeel, all the others were local residents of Naugam. The FIR of the poster was registered in Naugam police station itself. Therefore the stock was taken there.
