A big case of illegal electricity connections has come to light in the submerged area of Chhijarasi, Noida. It has come to light that around 13 thousand unauthorized connections are being operated here, while the number of valid connections is said to be around 3 thousand 800. It is alleged that a private syndicate is charging huge amount every month by providing electricity to the people through private meter and network.
According to preliminary estimates, if a minimum of Rs 1,000 is charged from one connection, then this amount from 13 thousand connections comes to around Rs 1.30 crore per month. However, the actual amount of recovery and the role of people associated with the alleged syndicate will become clear only after investigation.

This matter has also been raised before Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. It is being told that Manoj Kumar Singh, CEO of State Transformation Commission, put forward the issue of alleged illegal electricity network running in Chhijarasi before the Chief Minister. After this, the Chief Minister reprimanded Power Corporation Chairman Ashish Goyal and sought his reply in the matter.
New connections stopped since 2017, then how is electricity reaching?
According to electricity department officials, the concerned area of Chhijarsi falls in the submergence area. There is a ban on new electricity connections here since 2017. Despite this, a large number of people are living in illegal constructions and using electricity. The department says that some anti-social elements have created their own network by illegally using the departmental system.
Noida SK Jain, Chief Engineer of the Electricity Department, said that taking advantage of the closure of new connections since 2017, some people took advantage of the system and started supplying electricity unauthorized. The department has already disconnected such connections several times, but after taking action the line is reportedly reconnected.
According to the officer, after the action of the department, demonstrations and even sieges are done to create pressure. He told that sometimes the District Magistrate’s residence and sometimes the residence of public representatives were surrounded. There was also a strike in the electricity department regarding this issue for about three months.
As soon as the connection is disconnected, the line is connected again.
SK Jain claims that when the department demolishes the illegal network, pressure is put on citing law and order and after this the power line is allegedly reconnected. According to the officer, the people associated with this network have now become so trained that they make connections even without the knowledge of the department.
The electricity department team has demolished many illegal networks by running a campaign in Chhijarsi area. Officials say that the action will continue. The process of registering a case against the people involved in the alleged syndicate has also been started by filing a complaint in the police station.
Chief Engineer SK Jain said that the campaign will be conducted daily and efforts will be made to completely eliminate the illegal network. FIR is being lodged against the private syndicates whose names have come to light and those who are found involved in it.
People took to the streets due to power cut, police took charge
After the action of the electricity department, the local residents who were angry due to power cut were also seen upset. As the evening approached, a large number of people came out on the streets to protest against the action and started protesting. Seeing the situation, the police reached the spot and tried to pacify the people.
Questions have been raised earlier also regarding illegal construction in Khadar and Doob areas on the banks of Yamuna in Noida and Ghaziabad. There have been complaints about a large number of farm houses being built along with big buildings in these areas. In such a situation, the question is arising that where there is a ban on construction and new electricity connections are also closed, through which network the electricity supply was reaching there.
Now, after the action of the Electricity Department and the proposed FIR, preparations are on to tighten the noose on the alleged private electricity syndicate. During the investigation, it is also expected to become clear how the unauthorized network was being operated, who were the people involved in it and where the money collected in the name of electricity was going.
