Neha Kakkar has rejected the idea of singing reality shows being scripted and ‘fake’. Recently, during a conversation with the media, Neha Kakkar was asked a question about reality shows being scripted and falling TRP. He was also asked to react on the statements of many judges like Sunidhi Chauhan. On this Neha Kakkar said, “She fell because I stopped doing it! As long as I was doing it, TRP was the highest. But I would like to say, ‘If grapes are not available, they are sour’, people say like that. So it is like that. Whoever does not get grapes, they seem sour to him.” She further said, “This show is not scripted at all. People’s lives are not scripted at all. Of course, we Indians mostly come from humble backgrounds. I myself come from a humble background and if I feel emotional after listening to someone’s story, I feel emotions, so off course it is natural to feel emotions.” He said, “We all do not know from which small towns they come, and how many hurdles they cross. So, off course, all those contestants will not come up with a new story. Whatever is true, is true, and that is what we got to witness.” Sunidhi Chauhan had raised questions on reality shows. Singer Sunidhi Chauhan had openly talked about the changing format of singing reality shows in Raj Shamani’s podcast. Sunidhi had said that she loved the first two years of ‘Indian Idol’. At that time things were going well in the show. According to him, the format of reality shows then was quite different from today. Earlier, the real performance of the contestants and their nature was shown more. He said that in the initial seasons, no long story was made about the contestants. If a contestant sang poorly, the judges would laugh at him. He was jokingly asked to come again next year. According to Sunidhi, all this was definitely a part of the show, but the performance which was narrated to the audience was real. Now many things are ‘doctored’ and ‘corrected’ – Sunidhi Sunidhi claimed that now many things shown on TV are ‘doctored’ and ‘corrected’. Giving the reason for this, he said that the makers do not want any bad singer to be seen in their show. Therefore, many times the performance of the contestant is presented in such a way that it looks better on TV. Giving an example, he said that many times judges praise a contestant a lot. They stand up for him and say they have never heard a better performance. Despite this, the same contestant gets eliminated in the very next episode. According to Sunidhi, even the audience is surprised by this. They do not understand why the contestant for whom the judges praised so much was eliminated. Sunidhi said that such things had started troubling her. Therefore, he gradually stopped being a part of reality shows. Later he worked in the Indian version of ‘The Voice’. He told that some conditions were already fixed with this show and the makers had accepted them. According to Sunidhi, she was happy that in ‘The Voice’ the judges and the audience heard only what the contestants actually sang. He said that he does not like this kind of ‘cheating’ with the audience. In the podcast, Sunidhi was also asked what she found most surprising in reality shows. On this he had told that the biggest problem was when in the show he was asked to say good things to promote a particular contestant. Sunidhi said that she could not do this. According to him, the reason behind promoting some contestants is not just their performance but other benefits are also considered. He told that later shows or other projects can be done with the contestant who wins the show because the audience that watches him win is connected with him. In such a situation, the makers feel that that contestant can attract viewers further. Sunidhi said that for this reason, sometimes the benefits received after the end of the reality show can also play an important role in choosing the contestants.
