Netanyahu was talking about the changes taking place in the population in Britain and Europe. He said that a few decades ago the thinking about Israel in Britain was quite different from today. Referring to the 1967 war with Arab countries, he said that the son and grandson of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill had come to Israel as journalists at that time. He reported on the war in favor of Israel. Netanyahu said that it is difficult to see such an environment in today’s Britain. Why does Netanyahu say this about Europe? Netanyahu also said that a situation like Britain is being created across Europe. He has earlier also expressed concern about the increasing Muslim population in Europe and Muslim immigrants coming from other countries. He says that with the increase in Muslim population in European countries, the attitude of the governments there towards Israel is also changing. Netanyahu believes that population changes in Europe are also a reason for increasing criticism against Israel. Vance had also given such a statement regarding Britain. He told in a speech that he and a friend of his were discussing who would be the first Islamic country to possess nuclear weapons. Vance said- I thought maybe it could be Iran. Vance was making this comment while taunting the Labor Party’s policies regarding immigrants in Britain. Vance was a US senator from Ohio at that time. Difference between Islamic Republic and Islamic Country: Not every Islamic country is necessarily an Islamic Republic. Like Pakistan falls in both the categories. But even though Indonesia is a Muslim majority country, it is not called an Islamic Republic.
