Asha Devi on Monday attended the first national conference on violence and prevention of violence against children.
Nirbhaya incident took place in Delhi on the night of 16 December 2012. Today this incident is completing 12 years. On Monday, the mother of the Nirbhaya incident victim said, ‘Daughters are still not safe in the country.’ Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi had attended the first national conference on prevention of violence against women and children.
She said emotionally – I want to say with great sadness that even after 12 years the circumstances have not changed. The daughters of the country are not safe. When I was fighting to get justice for my daughter, I knew that she was no more and would never come back, but I remember her words that the criminals should be punished in such a way that such incidents do not happen again.
He said that I participated in many programs related to the protection of the daughters of the country, but everything went in vain. Despite new laws and many discussions, the situation has not changed even today.
Asha Devi said- I am not able to understand some incidents, where parents lose their daughter, but the matter does not reach the court. It takes six months to a year to identify the culprit. Then how can we expect that our daughters will be safe and the parents who have lost their daughters will get justice?

Asha Devi mentioned the incident at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. he said– Still no one knows what really happened there. He appealed to the Central and State Governments to think as to why things have not changed despite police, law and other arrangements.
She said- I am not blaming anyone, but I am sad that our daughters are not safe, be it in school, office, anywhere. Generally, the situation is even worse for younger daughters and when the situation is like this in towns and cities, then what can be said about villages, where most of the incidents go unnoticed. He said that whatever our law is. The work should be done in its true sense so that our girls get justice, he said, underlining the burden in his heart.

Four people convicted of gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya – Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) were hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail on March 20, 2020.
