- Calcutta High Court Relief: Nandigram Congress Candidate Milan Pradhan Bail

Milan Pradhan was arrested on the evening of 18 September.
Calcutta High Court granted bail to Congress candidate from Nandigram Milan Pradhan ahead of the by-elections to be held in West Bengal. On Thursday, the court said in its decision that the police cannot arrest him in this case. The court has also allowed Milan Pradhan to contest the elections.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharya of Calcutta High Court, while granting bail to Milan, remarked – It is surprising that the complaint was filed in 2007 and the investigating officer has taken action against him after 19 years.
Justice Bhattacharya also said that no document was produced by the state government to prove that any production warrant was issued.
The court directed the police officials not to take any action against Pradhan till October 12 in connection with this case registered in 2007 at Khejuri police station in Purba Medinipur district. The next hearing of this case will be on October 12.
Now we can also campaign for elections
On September 19, the Haldia Sub-Divisional Court had sent him to judicial custody till October 3 in four cases. These cases are related to Nandigram of 2007.
After this, on September 21, the Kanthi Court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days in a nearly two decade old Arms Act case.
The orders of both the lower courts had almost ended the opportunity for Pradhan to campaign for himself. But after getting relief from the High Court, he will also be able to campaign for elections.
Subhendu Adhikari had won Bhawanipur and Nandigram seats. He has defeated Mamata Banerjee on Bhawanipur seat.
By-election after the officer leaves the seat
The Nandigram seat was won by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in the 2026 assembly elections. He also won from Bhawanipur seat of Kolkata. After this Suvendu Adhikari left Nandigram seat. The Election Commission announced by-election on this seat.
Nandigram has a special place in the politics of West Bengal. In 2007, Suvendu Adhikari had helped in the anti-land acquisition movement led by Mamata Banerjee.
