Question: Tell us about how the film Dhurandhar changed your life? Shahzad Ali: When the song Caravan from the film Dhurandhar was released, I was in Bikaner. This song came in the trailer. Someone sent me this song on WhatsApp, and within a few hours people kept sending it and praying. People across the country liked it right from the trailer until the full song came out. 80 percent of the comments in the trailer were that release this song, people wanted to hear this song completely. After this I started feeling that something amazing was going to happen and I went to Mumbai.
This song brought a lot of changes in my life. I would like to thank Shashwat Sachdev sir, who is from Jaipur and is the music director of Dhurandhar. He has always believed in me. Before this he made me sing songs in films like Article 370, Uljh. During this period we also made an album named Indian Odissi, it was an international collaboration. He always made me sing songs with love.

Question: There is a lot of discussion about the gamut of this song, how much credit will you give to Shashwat and tell us about the process of making this song? Shahzad Ali: The entire credit of this song goes to Shashwat sir only. The composition of the creator is equal to that of a child. In such a situation, it is a very difficult task for a father to give his child to someone else. Shashwat Sir is a very perfectionist.
When he created it and called me, he said – You have to sing the song, but don’t know what to sing. Then he composed the song at that very moment, made the track at that very moment and I sang at that very moment. He also composed the gamut of this song and taught it to me. We made it in one take. The whole world is listening to this song today.
Question: Caravan is a very old song, it has been recreated, so how much challenge was there regarding it? Shahzad Ali: People know that this is an old song, but I want to tell everyone that this is a song older than independence. This song is of Fateh Ali Khan and Mubarak Ali Khan Sahab. It was created in 1940 and both the artists sang it for the first time at Dev Anand Saheb’s party. Fateh Ali Khan Sahab was the father of Nusrat Sahab, he composed this qawwali in classical. Roshan Sahab recreated it in 1960 and now Shashwat Sahab has recreated it.
Question: Today people are seeing success, no one has seen the struggle, you have been singing for eight years, what kind of struggle was there?
Shahzad Ali: Struggle means nothing, this is stupid. God-Allah gives you the opportunity to learn in this time and after this you will get success. You keep it safely.

The song ‘Caravan’ from the film Dhurandhar was much talked about.
Question: You give credit for your success to your daughter, tell us about it? Shahzad Ali: The trailer of Dhurandhar came on 17th November and my daughter was born on 16th November. I had prayed to Allah only for a daughter. I wanted to have a daughter and I had told this to my wife and family also. This trailer was launched soon after his birth and the whole of India liked my song.
A person named Shahzad was being searched. On November 25, people came to know who had sung this song. That’s why I say that daughters are a mercy and the result of that is that I am getting love all over the country. It was my wish to have a daughter, because after having her, my problems would reduce and that is what happened.
Question: This song was to be released later, but on the demand of the audience it was brought earlier, how much truth is there in this? Shahzad: Whatever work we do, we do it for the audience only. The audience had understood this song, so it was our right to bring it first. We don’t live for ourselves, we live for the public, I think this is the second form of an artist.

Ranveer Singh, while praising the singer for the song ‘Caravan’, had said – I felt as if I was flying in the sky.
Question: You come from a musical family, is this tradition still being followed today? Shahzad Ali: In my community, many people follow the musical tradition. Today Sultan is with me, his family has taken rhythm to the whole world. Ghulam Hussain, Shakur Sulaimani who was my teacher, Roshan Ali who arranged the rhythm through musical instruments in all the films that came from 1988 to 2007.
I took training from my masters Abdul Sattar Saheb and Pukhraj Sharma. Music has been prevalent in Bikaner for a long time. One has to enter the commercial market and then people come to know that there are such great artists in their family or society. Four artists will definitely be found in every house of our society. My elder father Rajab Ali who was known as Rajkumar Dagar. He was a very special artist. My grandfather Naseer Ahmed Saheb was a Sarangi player. Even today many people in our society create next level music.
