Veteran Hindi cinema actor Dharmendra (89) died on Monday morning at his home in Juhu. He was unwell for a long time and was undergoing treatment. His last rites were performed at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai on Monday afternoon. After Dharmendra’s death, producer-director K.C. Bokadia, while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, remembered Dharmendra and shared many stories about him.

How. Bokadia told that he was of very good nature. He was a very good person and a very good artist. There was never any financial problem with him. There was never any agreement with them. He often used to say that Bokadia Saheb! What will you take with you, ultimately these things will remain the same. I try not to hurt anyone because of me. I don’t attack anyone with my tongue.

Dharmendra was very fond of playing badminton

How. Bokadia told that while shooting in Madras, he used to come to my bungalow to play badminton. Actually, when Dharmendra had come to Madras to shoot the film ‘Insaaf Kaun Karega’, it came to light that he was fond of playing badminton. Got a badminton ground built for him in his bungalow within 24 days. He was happy with this and said – Bokadia Saheb! You have done wonders. He used to eat vegetarian food at my house only. I used to say sorry sir! I don’t give non-veg, then they used to say that I am a Jat man. Anyway, where do I like non-veg? I will eat whatever you feed me. I value food. I don’t get entangled in these things. He was a very simple person.

How. Bokadia and Dharmendra had done many films together including Challenge, Insaaf Kaun Karega, Kundan, Maidan-e-Jung, Sultan and Zulm O Sitam.

KC regarding Dharmendra. Bokadia also told that the film was shooting for ‘Insaaf Kaun Karega’. Jeevan Kumar’s son Kiran Kumar was cast in it. According to the scene, Dharmendra had to slap Kiran Kumar. Since Jeevan and Dharmendra were good friends, Dharmendra asked how he would slap his friend’s son Kiran Kumar.

How. Bokadia further said that we had gone to Pushkar for the shooting of this film. Had to shoot there with 600 camels. Dharmendra went for a walk riding a camel, when he did not return for a long time, then some went out riding on camels to search for him. Saw from a distance that he was coming from the side of a mound like a hero. He came closer and said – Are you an idiot? Will Dharmendra get lost? Even if Dharmendra dies, he will not be lost. I have penetrated into the hearts of people. If you want to find me, then search in the hearts of people, what do you search here in the dunes.
