This road is part of National Highway-44 in Mansar, Nagpur.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday inaugurated the country’s first road made of bio-bitumen (asphalt made from stubble). It is part of National Highway-44 in Mansar, Nagpur.
During this, Gadkari said that this will help in reducing pollution. Waste can be converted into value (money). Farmers will now become ‘Annadata’ and ‘Urjadata’ as well as ‘Bitumendata’. There are 400 projects in the process of making CNG from bio-waste in the country. Of these, 40 have been completed, in which CNG is being made from stubble.
A total of 60 lakh tonnes of stubble has been used in these projects. Now we are making CNG from rice straw also. CNG is cheaper than petrol. This also reduces pollution and also saves money. Farmers will benefit greatly from this.

With this technology the shortage of bitumen (asphalt) can be bridged.

This road has been prepared jointly by CSIR, CRRI, NHAI and Praj Industries.

Gadkari said that this will help in reducing pollution.
The shortage of asphalt in the country will be fulfilled, currently 50% is imported. This road has been prepared jointly by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Praj Industries. Praj Industries itself has prepared bio-bitumen from lingin based technology. Lingin is a type of complex polymer (fiber) found in plants.
The shortage of bitumen (asphalt) can be bridged with this technology. India currently imports 50% of asphalt of the total supply. This innovation will help in revenue generation for bio-refineries, reduce stubble burning and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional asphalt.
