Haj pilgrimage ends with Bakrid

Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid, which is being celebrated on May 28 this year, is an Islamic festival also known as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’. It is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. It marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

The date of Bakrid varies every year as it is based on the lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. The result is that Eid comes a little earlier every year in the Western calendar.
