After years of hard work and massive global promotion, Ranbir Kapoor’s most awaited film Ramayan Part-1 was released on 5 November. About Rs 4 thousand crores (about Rs 2000 crores in each part) including making, production and promotion were spent on the two parts of the film, making it India’s most expensive film. In such a situation, it is obvious that the film’s earnings are being closely monitored. The film earned Rs 62.47 crore in India on the first day i.e. opening day and its worldwide collection was Rs 121.62 crore. The worldwide collection of the film on the second day has reached 231.63 crores. That means the film earned more than Rs 200 crore in two days. This collection is big in itself, but despite this, it is difficult to find the budget of Rs 2000 crore for Part 1. This raises 5 big questions – First – Looking at the current collection, will the film be a hit or a flop? Second- What should be the collection for a film to be a hit in pre-Diwali and post-Diwali? Third- Why was the film’s earnings slow? Fourth- How far behind is Ramayana from Dhurandhar 2? Fifth- What records has the film made so far? Know the answers to all these questions from trade experts Sumit Kadel and Rohit Jaiswal – Question-1, According to the current collection, what is the future of the film? Sumit Kadel Answer- The film has earned more than 200 crores in 2 days. This is fine business for a standard pre-Diwali release film, but Ramayan is a film with a budget of Rs 2000 crore, in which the superstars are Yash, Ranbir Kapoor, Sunny Deol. Its marketing has also been done on a large scale. It is a very grand film, the most expensive film of India. In this respect this collection is quite weak. Question-2, How much collection is required for a film to be a hit? Sumit Kadel’s answer- The Hindi collection of this film was to be at least 80 crores on the first day. If it had come the next day of Diwali, its collection would have been up to Rs 120 crore. If there was any impact in the pre-Diwali release, it should not have been so much. It has received mixed reviews from the audience. Some people like it good, some people like it average. But no one is feeling very good. So without any doubt its collection is quite weak. To make it a hit, the collection in Hindi alone should be 900-1000 crores and worldwide it will have to earn 2500 crores. If this film does not earn Rs 100-100 crore on Monday-Tuesday, then its total Hindi collection will be only Rs 600-700 crore. Rohit Jaiswal’s answer- The budget of the film is 2000 crores. When a producer makes a film, he does not expect just a theatrical release. There are different methods for this. Satellite, OTT, Music, International Rights etc. The budget is Rs 2000 crore, so its standard theatrical value is 60 percent, i.e. around Rs 1200 crore. The important market of the film is India, so 70 percent of its earnings should be in India, which is approximately Rs 840 crore. Even if the film earns Rs 840 crore in India, it will not be considered a hit. Because to be a hit one has to earn more than the standard theatrical value. Because after deducting the profit of the exhibitors, it comes to the distributors. In such a situation, to become a hit in India, the film will have to earn up to Rs 1100 crore. Question-3, Why was the film’s earnings less than expected? Rohit Jaiswal’s answer: Earnings have decreased because pre-Diwali time is considered a dull period. If this film had come post Diwali or after Sunday, the business would have been more. The huge star cast of the film, the large scale it was released, the number of shows it got or the amount spent on the film, the number of days before its advance booking started, the Hindi collection of the film on the first day should have been 25 crores more than the current collection. And the second day’s collection was to be Rs 10 crore more. The film should have collected more than this even in pre-Diwali, which it did not do. It was promoted so much. Ranbir’s stardom and Yash’s stardom also did not work. Its release side is very big. Question-4, Will Ramayana be able to earn as much as Dhurandhar? Rohit Jaiswal’s reply- ‘The film is being compared to Dhurandhar, but this is wrong. It has to be understood that the budget of this film is many times more than Dhurandhar. Let us tell you that Ramayan made a worldwide collection of Rs 121 crore on the first day. However, this film is not able to compete with the film Dhurandhar – The Revenge released this year, which was made with a budget of only Rs 250 crores. Dhurandhar-The Revenge had earned Rs 75 crore in paid review shows a day before its release (18 March 2026), while on the opening day i.e. 19 March, the film had collected more than 170 crores worldwide. In comparison to this film, Ramayana: Part 1 lagged behind by Rs 50 crores. Dhurandhar- The Revenge made a total worldwide collection of Rs 1800 crores. In such a situation, looking at the current earnings of Ramayana, it seems difficult for it to reach even Rs 1800 crores. Question-5, What records did Ramayana make in 2 days? Ramayana: Part-1 has already made a place in the list of highest grossing top-10 films of 2026 with its two-day earnings (Rs 221 crore). The film has become the 7th highest grossing film of this year. After the weekend the film may reach the 5th spot.
