Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed Dia Mirza’s video from its page appealing not to burst crackers on Diwali. Following the objection of Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam, the BMC administration deleted this video from social media on Sunday. After the video was removed, Dia Mirza said in a conversation with news agency ANI that air pollution is a matter of public health and this video was made in public interest under the instructions of the Bombay High Court. BMC removed the video after BJP’s objection. The case started with a post made by Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam on the social media platform X. Tagging the official account of BMC, he wrote that we do not need lessons from anyone on how to celebrate Diwali. A few hours later, the BMC administration removed the video containing Dia Mirza’s message from its X and Instagram pages. However, BMC has retained the videos of Madhuri Dixit and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane released under the same campaign on its social media handles. Dia Mirza said – The era of goodness is no more. After the video was removed, actress Dia Mirza wrote in a social media post that she had not taken any fees from BMC for this campaign. He expressed disappointment and said that the times of goodness are no more. Why should anyone criticize the video that BMC has made me record in public interest? Air pollution is a matter of concern and all efforts to reduce pollution should be welcomed. Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde said while talking to the media that Dia Mirza has always opposed the Narmada Project, Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further said that Ritu Tawde Dia Mirza’s opposition continues to be against Hindutva. The Mayor said that BMC has blacklisted him. BMC had prepared videos in collaboration with celebs. In view of the ever increasing air pollution in Mumbai, Bombay High Court had issued guidelines on fireworks. Following the instructions of the High Court, BMC has completely banned bursting of firecrackers on public roads, streets and footpaths. Under this awareness campaign, BMC had prepared videos in collaboration with celebrities, in which citizens were appealed to celebrate environment-friendly Diwali and avoid noise and air pollution. Opposition said – BMC is working under the pressure of BJP. Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS have attacked the ruling party on this decision of BMC. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson and former mayor Kishori Pednekar raised questions whether the BMC administration was working under pressure from the BJP. He alleged that the civic body should not have succumbed to the communal agenda. Whereas BJP Minister Nitish Rane criticized Dia Mirza and said that she gives advice only on Diwali, while remains silent on other festivals. He said that he will talk to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard.
