Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from the post. Deepke thanked CJI Surya Kant for Pradhan’s resignation. Deepke said- If you had not called us cockroaches, the youth would not have been on the streets. Pradhan would not have resigned.
Abhijeet also said- We are cockroaches. Once inside, it does not come out easily. Right now only one resignation has taken place. Don’t mess with cockroaches.
Actually, this whole story started with the oral remarks of CJI Surya Kant 72 days ago. On May 15, the CJI bench in the Supreme Court was hearing a lawyer’s petition.
During this time, he had said – Some unemployed youth are like cockroaches, who later start attacking the system by becoming media, social media or RTI activists.
The cockroach comment itself inadvertently gave this movement its identifying symbol. The students adopted the term as a means of mocking the protest.
Cockroach emojis flooded social media, memes were created overnight, artists created cartoons and satirical posters started circulating on campus.
Deepke transformed this insult into ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, which started as a satirical social media page and later became the face of the student movement.
When one of its social media accounts was deleted, it returned with another account named “Cockroaches are back”, with the tagline – “Cockroaches never die.”

CJP chose the digital path, not the road.
Unlike many student movements of the past, it gained momentum online before taking to the streets. CJP quickly grew to become one of the largest digital communities in the country. Today CJP has around 2.63 crore (26.3 million) followers on Instagram, while Congress has around 1.48 crore (14.8 million) and BJP has 95 lakh (9.5 million) followers.
Now read, CJI Surya Kant’s comment and the entire incident after that…

CJI Surya Kant’s remarks in the Supreme Court on May 15.
When this statement of CJI came out, there was opposition to it. This statement started being criticized by leaders, people and social media.
The very next day i.e. on 16th May, CJI Surya Kant reached Jabalpur to attend an event of Madhya Pradesh High Court. There he gave clarification on the cockroach comment.
CJI Surya Kant said-
It is completely baseless to say that I criticized the youth of the country. It is sad to read that a section of the media has misrepresented my oral comments during the hearing of a minor matter. I had criticized those who entered the legal profession with fake and bogus degrees.

But the matter had progressed too far. On May 16 at 12 midnight, Abhijeet Deepke created a social media page named Cockroach Janata Party. From that day till 25th July i.e. about 72 days, the CJP formed after this statement remained the most discussed in the country.
This is how Cockroach Janata Party was formed
On May 16 at 12 midnight, Abhijeet Deepke created a social media page named Cockroach Janata Party. Also created an account on Instagram. A website was also created.
A Google Form was released on X. It had a picture with ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ written on it and the caption – ‘A new platform is being launched for all the cockroaches. If you want to join, click on the link.
Four essential qualifications were mentioned for joining the party – ‘Unemployed, Lazy, Chronically Online, Ability to Rent Professionally.’ After this people are continuously joining CJP.
From 17 to 20 May, Cockroach Party’s followers increased continuously, but on 21 May its accounts were closed. On the same day, another account was created with the name Cockroach is Back. Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was first demanded on 22 May.
An online petition was released on the website on 24 May. On this, 10 lakh people had registered demanding Pradhan’s resignation.
CJP is not registered even today
Cockroach Janata Party i.e. CJP is not a formally registered political party with the Election Commission. It is written sarcastically on its website that it is a non-registered party under the Cockroach Act on the No Election Commission of Pakistan. 30 year old Abhijeet Deepke is its founder. Deepke has been the leader of Jantar Mantar Protest.
