It is raining in the plains along with snowfall in the hilly areas of the country. There was heavy rain throughout the day in Delhi-NCR on Friday. This was the highest rainfall in the month of December in the last 15 years.
The rain started around 2:30 am on Thursday and continued throughout the day. According to IMD, the city recorded 9.1 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Friday. Due to this the temperature dropped to 14.6 degrees Celsius.
On Friday, the plains of Kashmir’s Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama received the first snowfall of this season. Due to this, Srinagar-Leh Highway and Mughal Road were closed. Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was affected, leaving around 2,000 vehicles stranded.
Due to bad weather, 5 evening flights were canceled at Srinagar International Airport on Friday. According to airport officials, there is a possibility of more flights being cancelled. Passengers have been asked to remain constantly updated.
It rained in many areas of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal on Friday night. Due to this, a drop in temperature was recorded.

Jammu and Kashmir: The weather will be mainly dry from December 29 to 31, while light snowfall may occur at some places in Kashmir between January 1 and 5.
Uttarakhand: IMD has predicted cold wave and heavy snowfall in areas located above 2500 meters in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday. Holiday has been declared in all government, non-government schools and Anganwadi centers in Chamoli.
Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain and snowfall occurred in six districts on Friday, due to which orange alert has been issued for the next 24 hours in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Kinnaur.

The Meteorological Department has not issued a rain alert for any state today. However, there is an alert of thunderstorm and lightning at some places in UP, Bihar, MP, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
